No Known Interaction
The bottom line No known interaction

We found no known interaction between Sea Buckthorn and Lanthanum Carbonate in our sources. Sea Buckthorn and Lanthanum Carbonate

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Lanthanum Carbonate and Sea Buckthorn in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

Sea Buckthorn safety at a glance

Sea Buckthorn overall Use caution Generally well tolerated as a food, but supplement safety has not been fully studied.
Pregnancy Use caution Food amounts are likely fine, but supplement doses are not well studied, so use caution and ask your doctor.

Safety guidance is general; always confirm with your pharmacist or doctor for your situation.

How we checked

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Lanthanum Carbonate

Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Lanthanum Carbonate is filed under a single classification — oral drugs. Sea Buckthorn has documented interactions with 2 drug classes — the most serious being anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs (moderate) and antihypertensive drugs (moderate) — and none of Lanthanum Carbonate’s classifications are among them.

Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

What Sea Buckthorn Itself Has Been Linked To

This is not an interaction — nothing below involves Lanthanum Carbonate. It is the side-effect record for Sea Buckthorn on its own, from the licensed Natural Medicines monograph. If something new turns up after you add Sea Buckthorn, this list is the first place to look.

Everything above comes from the Natural Medicines adverse-effect record for Sea Buckthorn — expand a row for the licensed statement it rests on. We read the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of Lanthanum Carbonate’s FDA label too, and the two lists don’t meaningfully overlap — which is why no Lanthanum Carbonate column appears here.

How to take them

Some Lanthanum Carbonate Products Have a Food Rule — Sea Buckthorn Should Not Break It

At least one FDA label for a product containing Lanthanum Carbonate says to take it with food. If you take Sea Buckthorn on an empty stomach out of habit, keep them separate — and take Lanthanum Carbonate with a meal where the label says to.

This may not be true of your version. Food instructions belong to the product, not the ingredient: two Lanthanum Carbonate products can carry different directions, and extended-release forms often differ from immediate-release ones. The label we read is quoted below — check the directions on your own box or bottle, or ask your pharmacist, for how to take the exact product you were given.

Do not store FOSRENOL Oral Powder for future use once mixed with food.

From the Dosage and Administration section of the FDA label we read for Lanthanum Carbonate — where that label names a specific product, the instruction is that product's. See the Lanthanum Carbonate drug page ›

A food rule is not an interaction — it is about how much of the medicine you absorb. The directions that came with your own product, and your pharmacist, outrank anything on this page.

About Sea Buckthorn

What is Sea Buckthorn?

Sea Buckthorn
  • Skin health and dryness
  • Dry eye symptoms
  • Digestive complaints
  • Heart and cholesterol support
  • General antioxidant and immune support

Sea buckthorn is a berry-bearing shrub rich in vitamins, carotenoids, and fatty acids that people use for skin, eye, digestive, and heart health. Early research is promising for a few uses like dry skin and dry eye, but most claims are not yet proven. It is generally well tolerated as a food, but talk to your pharmacist before using concentrated supplements.

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Sea Buckthorn is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Sea Buckthorn record says about it on its own.

Sea Buckthorn: dosing

There is no official or standardized dose of sea buckthorn. The right amount depends on the product, its form (oil, capsule, juice, or powder), and how it is concentrated. The best approach is to follow the directions on the product label and not exceed the recommended amount.

About Lanthanum

What Is Lanthanum Used For?

Brand name: Fosrenol

Lanthanum carbonate — available as lanthanum carbonate chewable tablets and as Fosrenol in both chewable tablet and oral powder forms — is used to lower elevated serum phosphate (too much phosphate in the blood) in people with end-stage renal disease (ESRD), the most advanced stage of chronic kidney disease.

Managing high phosphate in ESRD typically involves eating less phosphate-rich food, removing phosphate through dialysis, and using a phosphate binder like lanthanum carbonate to reduce how much phosphate is absorbed from meals.
