Here's the thinking behind this pairing. Siponimod (Mayzent) works by quieting down certain immune cells so they cause less nerve damage in MS. Shark cartilage, on the other hand, has shown in lab dish studies that it might stimulate the immune system. If that were true in people, it could in theory push against what siponimod is trying to do and make it a little less effective at controlling your MS.

I want to be honest with you though: this is purely theoretical. It's based on test-tube data, and nothing like it has actually been reported in real patients. On top of that, shark cartilage hasn't held up as a useful supplement in good studies. Before adding it, please run it by your neurologist or pharmacist so we keep your MS treatment on track.

What Is Siponimod Used For?

Mayzent (siponimod) is approved for adults with relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis (MS). This includes three specific types: clinically isolated syndrome (a first episode of MS-like symptoms), relapsing-remitting MS (periods of attacks followed by recovery), and active secondary progressive MS (a phase where the disease gradually worsens but still has active relapses).

It is taken by mouth once daily and is intended as a long-term treatment to reduce relapses and slow disease progression.
