Here's an interesting pairing, because both slippery elm and psyllium (Metamucil) work in a similar way. Both contain a sticky, gel-forming fiber that swells up with water and coats your gut. The concern on file is mostly theoretical, based on how these fibers behave rather than solid human studies, so I don't want you to worry too much.

Psyllium isn't a typical drug that gets activated or broken down by the liver, so this isn't about changing its effect in your bloodstream. The bigger practical point is that two gel-forming fibers together can be a lot of bulk. Make sure you drink plenty of water, and space them out from any other medicines so the gel doesn't slow their absorption. When in doubt, run it past your pharmacist.
