Here's the thing about coffee charcoal: like other charcoals, it has a sponge-like surface that can grab onto things sitting in your gut. If you swallow it at the same time as psyllium (Metamucil), the two can bump into each other and the charcoal may bind up some of the fiber before it does its job. This isn't a dangerous reaction, but it could leave your psyllium working less well, meaning less relief from constipation.

Keep in mind this is a theoretical concern based on how charcoal behaves, not strong human studies. The simple fix is timing: take them at least two hours apart. If you use both regularly, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist to space them out right.
