ORAL DRUGS
Why this applies to Flurbiprofen
Flurbiprofen falls under ORAL DRUGS — the group Coffee Charcoal interacts with.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the simple version: coffee charcoal acts a lot like activated charcoal, with a porous surface that can grab onto things sitting in your gut. If you swallow your flurbiprofen too close to a dose of coffee charcoal, some of the medicine may stick to the charcoal instead of getting absorbed into your bloodstream. That could mean less relief for the joint pain, swelling, and stiffness you're treating.
Flurbiprofen works as-is (it's not a prodrug), so this is about getting less of it, not too much. The easy fix is timing: keep the two at least two hours apart. This concern is based on how charcoal behaves rather than firm studies, so don't panic, but do run your routine by your pharmacist or doctor first.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Flurbiprofen page
“Anyone taking flurbiprofen (Ansaid), an NSAID pain reliever, should treat this list with genuine care, starting with the entries that pile onto the drug's own weak points, the stomach lining and the kidneys. Drinking alcohol, beer and wine both make the list, raises the chance of stomach bleeding beyond what any NSAID already carries,…”

About Coffee Charcoal
What is Coffee Charcoal?
- Diarrhea
- Inflammatory bowel conditions
- Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
- Mild digestive upset
- Wound and skin care (topical, traditional)
Coffee charcoal is made by roasting green coffee beans until they turn black, creating a charcoal-like material used traditionally for diarrhea and digestive complaints. Scientific evidence supporting its benefits is very limited, and it should not replace proven treatments. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you have a chronic gut condition.
