ORAL DRUGS
Why this applies to Hydrocortisone
Hydrocortisone falls under ORAL DRUGS — the group Coffee Charcoal interacts with.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the simple version: coffee charcoal acts a lot like activated charcoal. Its porous surface can grab onto things sitting in your gut, and that includes oral hydrocortisone (like Cortef tablets). If you swallow them too close together, the charcoal may soak up some of the medicine before your body absorbs it, so you could end up getting less than your doctor intended.
Why that matters: hydrocortisone often replaces a hormone your body needs or calms down swelling and allergic flares. Getting too little could mean fatigue, weakness, or a return of the symptoms you're treating. The good news is this is a theoretical, timing-based issue. Simply separating them by at least two hours usually avoids the problem. Topical creams aren't affected. Run your schedule by your pharmacist to be safe.

About Coffee Charcoal
What is Coffee Charcoal?
- Diarrhea
- Inflammatory bowel conditions
- Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
- Mild digestive upset
- Wound and skin care (topical, traditional)
Coffee charcoal is made by roasting green coffee beans until they turn black, creating a charcoal-like material used traditionally for diarrhea and digestive complaints. Scientific evidence supporting its benefits is very limited, and it should not replace proven treatments. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you have a chronic gut condition.
