Coffee Charcoal and Docetaxel

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Docetaxel and Coffee Charcoal in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

How we checked

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Docetaxel

Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Docetaxel is filed under 2 classifications — including cytochrome p450 3a4 (cyp3a4) substrates. Coffee Charcoal has documented interactions with 1 drug class — the most serious being oral drugs (moderate) — and none of Docetaxel’s classifications are among them.

Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

What Docetaxel’s Own FDA Label Lists

This is not an interaction — none of it involves Coffee Charcoal. These are the most notable effects listed in the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of Docetaxel’s own FDA label, for the medication by itself. Knowing the drug’s own list makes it easier to work out the likely cause if something new turns up while you take both. 8 of them are worth acting on rather than waiting out — marked below.

  • Fainting Worth acting on
  • A low platelet count Worth acting on
  • Anemia Worth acting on
  • Shortness of breath Worth acting on
  • A low white blood cell count Worth acting on
  • Liver problems Worth acting on
  • A higher chance of infection Worth acting on

From the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of the FDA label for Docetaxel. Read the label on DailyMed › Coffee Charcoal’s licensed record lists no adverse effects our clinical vocabulary could match, so there is no Coffee Charcoal side to compare — that is a limit of the record, not a statement that Coffee Charcoal has no side effects.

See Every Supplement That Interacts With Docetaxel

This page covers Coffee Charcoal only. If you take other supplements — a multivitamin, a sleep aid, something for joints — the Docetaxel page lists 121 supplements it has a documented interaction with, worst first, each one explained.

The most serious there right now: Grapefruit (major), St. John's Wort (major), Acacia Rigidula (moderate), Adrafinil (moderate) and African Wild Potato (moderate).

By severity: 2 major · 87 moderate · 32 minor.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Docetaxel page

“Grapefruit is the first thing I would take off the menu during docetaxel (Taxotere) chemotherapy. It blocks CYP3A4, the liver enzyme that clears docetaxel, and higher levels of a chemotherapy drug mean harsher side effects, not better results.”

About Coffee Charcoal

What is Coffee Charcoal?

  • Diarrhea
  • Inflammatory bowel conditions
  • Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
  • Mild digestive upset
  • Wound and skin care (topical, traditional)

Coffee charcoal is made by roasting green coffee beans until they turn black, creating a charcoal-like material used traditionally for diarrhea and digestive complaints. Scientific evidence supporting its benefits is very limited, and it should not replace proven treatments. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you have a chronic gut condition.

Coffea arabica · Rubiaceae · Roasted (carbonized) green coffee beans · Powder, tablets, capsules, and granules

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Coffee Charcoal is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Coffee Charcoal record says about it on its own.

Coffee Charcoal: dosing

There is no firmly established standard dose for coffee charcoal. It is sold as a powder, tablets, capsules, or granules, often in combination with other herbs, and the amount varies by product. The safest approach is to follow the directions on the product label and to use it only for short periods. Because it may interfere with the absorption of nutrients and medicines, it is generally taken apart from other supplements and drugs.
