In vitro research suggests that summer savory extract inhibits platelet aggregation and adhesion. Theoretically, summer savory might increase the risk of bleeding when used with antiplatelet or anticoagulant drugs. Some anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs include aspirin, clopidogrel (Plavix), dalteparin (Fragmin), enoxaparin (Lovenox), heparin, ticlopidine (Ticlid), warfarin (Coumadin), and others.

Here's the situation with reteplase (Retevase). This is a powerful clot-busting drug given through an IV in the hospital, usually during a heart attack to quickly dissolve a dangerous clot. Because it works by breaking down clots, the main risk doctors watch for is bleeding.

Lab studies hint that summer savory may make platelets a little less sticky, which could in theory add to reteplase's bleeding risk. I want to be honest though: this is theoretical, based only on test-tube research, and food or tea amounts of this herb are very unlikely to matter. Reteplase is also given in a controlled hospital setting where your team monitors you closely. Still, if you take concentrated savory extracts or oil, mention it to your care team.
