In vitro research suggests that summer savory extract inhibits platelet aggregation and adhesion. Theoretically, summer savory might increase the risk of bleeding when used with antiplatelet or anticoagulant drugs. Some anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs include aspirin, clopidogrel (Plavix), dalteparin (Fragmin), enoxaparin (Lovenox), heparin, ticlopidine (Ticlid), warfarin (Coumadin), and others.

Here's the thing to know about Spinraza (nusinersen): the interaction we have on file is about blood thinning. Lab studies hint that summer savory may make platelets a little less sticky, which could in theory add to the bleeding risk of anticoagulant or antiplatelet medicines. With Spinraza, this matters a bit differently. Nusinersen itself isn't a true blood thinner, but it is delivered by spinal injection (into the fluid around your spine), and the drug's own labeling notes possible effects on clotting and platelet counts.

So combining a concentrated savory extract could, in theory, nudge your bleeding risk during those lumbar punctures. This is theoretical only, and normal cooking amounts almost certainly won't matter. Still, mention any savory supplements to your care team before your injections.

Spinraza (nusinersen) is used to treat spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) — a genetic disease that causes progressive muscle weakness by reducing the body's ability to make a protein called SMN (survival motor neuron). Spinraza is approved for pediatric and adult patients with SMA.

Spinraza is given by intrathecal injection — directly into the fluid surrounding the spinal cord — so the medicine can reach the central nervous system where it's needed most.
