In vitro research suggests that summer savory extract inhibits platelet aggregation and adhesion. Theoretically, summer savory might increase the risk of bleeding when used with antiplatelet or anticoagulant drugs. Some anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs include aspirin, clopidogrel (Plavix), dalteparin (Fragmin), enoxaparin (Lovenox), heparin, ticlopidine (Ticlid), warfarin (Coumadin), and others.

Here's the gist for Betrixaban (Bevyxxa), which is a blood thinner that blocks a clotting factor called factor Xa. Summer savory isn't a prodrug situation here, so there's no enzyme activation to worry about. Instead, the concern is simpler: in lab dish studies, summer savory extract appeared to make platelets (the cells that help your blood clot) a little less sticky. Stack that on top of a medication already designed to slow clotting, and you could theoretically tip the scales toward easier bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or bleeding that's slower to stop.

The key word is theoretical. This is based on test-tube work, not real patients, and the normal amount you'd use as a cooking herb or an occasional tea is very unlikely to matter. Concentrated extracts or the essential oil are a different story. Before using those alongside Betrixaban, please check with your pharmacist or doctor first.
