Nintedanib Esylate falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Summer Savory interacts with.

In vitro research suggests that summer savory extract inhibits platelet aggregation and adhesion. Theoretically, summer savory might increase the risk of bleeding when used with antiplatelet or anticoagulant drugs. Some anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs include aspirin, clopidogrel (Plavix), dalteparin (Fragmin), enoxaparin (Lovenox), heparin, ticlopidine (Ticlid), warfarin (Coumadin), and others.

Here's the thing to know about Ofev (nintedanib): it can raise your bleeding risk on its own, which is one reason it carries warnings about bleeding events. Summer savory, mainly in concentrated extract or essential oil form, has shown in lab (test tube) studies that it may make platelets less sticky and slow clotting. So in theory, pairing the two could add up and make bleeding a bit more likely.

What might that look like? Easy bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or cuts that take longer to stop. Keep in mind this is theoretical and based on lab data, not real patients. A sprig or two in cooking is very unlikely to matter. Before using savory supplements or oil, just check with your pharmacist or doctor.

About Nintedanib

What Is Nintedanib Used For?

Brand name: Ofev

Nintedanib capsules are approved for adults with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) — a chronic, progressive scarring of the lungs — and for adults with chronic fibrosing interstitial lung diseases (ILDs) with a progressive phenotype, meaning fibrosing lung diseases that continue to worsen over time despite treatment.

Nintedanib capsules (including Ofev) are also indicated to slow the rate of decline in lung function in adults with systemic sclerosis-associated interstitial lung disease (SSc-ILD), a lung complication of the autoimmune condition systemic sclerosis (scleroderma). Note that the Nintedanib esylate capsule product is approved for IPF and chronic fibrosing ILDs with a progressive phenotype, but SSc-ILD approval is carried by Ofev and other nintedanib capsule products — always confirm with your prescriber which product you have been prescribed.
