Neostigmine Bromide falls under CHOLINERGIC DRUGS — the group Syrian Rue interacts with.

Theoretically, Syrian rue might increase the effects and adverse effects of cholinergic drugs.
Syrian rue contains harmine. Animal research suggests that intravenous administration of harmine potentiates the effects of acetylcholine or increases acetylcholine levels.

Here's the gist: neostigmine works by boosting acetylcholine, the chemical your nerves use to talk to muscles and glands. It does this by slowing the enzyme that normally breaks acetylcholine down. Syrian Rue may push in the same direction, so stacking the two could amplify neostigmine's effects more than expected.

If that happens, you might see exaggerated cholinergic signs: more drooling and watery eyes, stomach cramping, diarrhea, sweating, a slow heartbeat, or muscle twitching. To be fair, this is a theoretical concern drawn from animal research, not proven in people, so I don't want to alarm you. Still, because both can amplify the same system, please run this by your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

What is Syrian Rue?

There is little reliable human evidence that it safely treats any condition, and it carries real risks of toxicity, so it is not recommended for self-treatment.
