Theoretically, Syrian rue might increase the levels and clinical effects of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
Syrian rue contains beta-carboline alkaloids, including harmine, harmol, and harmane. In vitro research suggests that these beta-carboline alkaloids competitively inhibit CYP3A4 enzymes.

Here's the thinking on combining Syrian Rue with temazepam (Restoril). The compounds in Syrian Rue may block a liver enzyme called CYP3A4, which is one of the pathways your body uses to clear temazepam. If that pathway slows down, temazepam could hang around longer and build up, meaning a stronger and longer effect than you expect.

For a sleep aid, that could show up as next-morning grogginess, heavier drowsiness, dizziness, confusion, or unsteadiness. I want to be honest, though: this is a theoretical concern based on lab studies, not real-world cases, so it's a maybe, not a certainty. Syrian Rue also has its own real toxicity risks. Please don't start or stop anything on your own. Check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

Temazepam capsules — sold as Restoril and under the generic name Temazepam — are indicated for the short-term treatment of insomnia, generally 7 to 10 days. They help people fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer.
