Triazolam falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Syrian Rue interacts with.

Theoretically, Syrian rue might increase the levels and clinical effects of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
Syrian rue contains beta-carboline alkaloids, including harmine, harmol, and harmane. In vitro research suggests that these beta-carboline alkaloids competitively inhibit CYP3A4 enzymes.

Here's the gist for Triazolam (Halcion): your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear this sleep medicine out. Lab studies suggest the harmala alkaloids in Syrian Rue can slow that same enzyme down. If that happens, triazolam could linger longer and build up, which may mean stronger and longer sedation, next-morning grogginess, dizziness, poor balance, memory gaps, and slowed breathing. Triazolam isn't a prodrug, so blocking CYP3A4 makes its effect bigger, not smaller.

To be fair, this is theoretical, based on test-tube research rather than real people, so we can't say how strong it would be in practice. Still, since both can deepen sedation, I'd loop in your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

Syrian Rue (Peganum harmala) is a traditional plant whose seeds contain potent compounds called harmala alkaloids, including MAO-inhibiting harmine and harmaline. There is little reliable human evidence that it safely treats any condition, and it carries real risks of toxicity, so it is not recommended for self-treatment. What Is Triazolam Used For?

Brand names: Halcion, Triazo, Apo-Triazo, Gen-Triazolam, Mylan-Triazolam, Novo-Triolam, Nu-Triazo

Triazolam tablets are approved for the short-term treatment of insomnia in adults. Treatment is generally intended for 7 to 10 days. Halcion (a brand of triazolam) is specifically indicated for this same short-term use in adults.

Using triazolam for more than 2 to 3 weeks requires a full re-evaluation by your doctor to rule out an underlying medical or psychiatric condition driving the sleep problem.
