Umbralisib Tosylate falls under HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS — the group Syrian Rue interacts with.

Theoretically, high doses of Syrian rue might increase the risk of liver damage when taken with hepatotoxic drugs.
Cases of hepatotoxicity and hepatic failure have been reported in patients who ingested a large quantity (up to 100 grams) of Syrian rue seeds.

Here's the concern with pairing Syrian Rue and Ukoniq (umbralisib). This isn't about one speeding up or slowing down the other. Instead, it's about adding two things that can both stress the liver. Umbralisib already carries a real risk of liver injury, and patients on it usually get regular blood tests to watch their liver enzymes. Syrian Rue, especially in large or concentrated seed doses, has been linked to liver damage and even liver failure in a few reported cases.

So the worry is a double hit to the same organ. Watch for warning signs like yellowing skin or eyes, dark urine, belly pain, nausea, or unusual tiredness. To be fair, this is mostly theoretical and tied to very high amounts of the seeds. Still, while you're being treated for lymphoma, please don't add Syrian Rue without first checking with your oncologist or pharmacist.

About Umbralisib

What Is Umbralisib Used For?

Brand name: Ukoniq

  • Umbralisib is used to treat marginal zone lymphoma (MZL; a slow growing cancer that begins in a type of white blood cells that normally fight infection) in adults whose cancer has returned or did not respond to a certain type of medication. It is also used to treat follicular lymphoma (FL; a type of cancer that begins in the white blood cells) in adults whose cancer has returned or did not respond to at least three other medications. Umbralisib is in a class of medications called kinase inhibitors. It works by blocking the action of the abnormal protein that signals cancer cells to multiply. This helps stop the spread of cancer cells.
