Theaflavin and Caspofungin

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Caspofungin and Theaflavin in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

How we checked

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Caspofungin

Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Caspofungin is filed under a single classification — antifungals. Theaflavin has documented interactions with 2 drug classes — the most serious being antidiabetes drugs (moderate) and organic anion-transporting polypeptide substrates (oatp) (moderate) — and none of Caspofungin’s classifications are among them.

Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

“Caspofungin (Cancidas) is an IV antifungal given in hospitals for serious infections like invasive candidiasis, and its supplement list is unusually calm. Only three ingredients have any interaction on file, all rated minor, and none of them threaten the drug itself.”

About Theaflavin

What is Theaflavin?

  • Heart health and cholesterol support
  • Antioxidant support
  • Weight management
  • Blood sugar support
  • General wellness

Theaflavins are antioxidant compounds formed when tea leaves are oxidized to make black tea. Early research suggests they may help with cholesterol and provide antioxidant effects, but high-quality human evidence is limited and doses are not standardized. Drinking black tea is generally safe, but talk to your pharmacist or doctor before taking concentrated extracts.

Camellia sinensis · Theaceae · Leaves (fermented/oxidized, as in black tea) · Black tea, standardized black tea extract capsules, tablets, powders

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Theaflavin is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Theaflavin record says about it on its own.

Theaflavin: dosing

There is no established standard dose of theaflavin. Supplements vary widely in how much theaflavin they contain and how the black tea extract is standardized. If you choose to take a product, follow the directions on the label and do not exceed the recommended amount. Drinking black tea is a simpler, well-tolerated way to get theaflavins for most people.

About Caspofungin Injection

What Is Caspofungin Injection Used For?

Brand name: Cancidas

Caspofungin injection is used to treat several serious fungal infections in adults and children 3 months of age and older. These include candidemia (Candida fungus in the bloodstream), Candida infections inside the abdomen, esophageal candidiasis (Candida infection of the esophagus/swallowing tube), and invasive aspergillosis (a serious lung and tissue infection caused by Aspergillus fungus) in patients who have not responded to or cannot tolerate other antifungal treatments.

It is also used as empirical therapy — meaning it is started right away to protect patients who have a fever and very low white blood cell counts (a condition called febrile neutropenia) when a fungal infection is suspected but not yet confirmed. It is not approved to treat oropharyngeal candidiasis (thrush in the mouth/throat) or as the first treatment tried for invasive aspergillosis, and it has not been studied for Candida infections of the heart valves, bones, or brain.
