Caspofungin falls under ANTIFUNGALS — the group Saccharomyces Boulardii interacts with.

Theoretically, taking antifungals with Saccharomyces boulardii might decrease the effectiveness of Saccharomyces boulardii.
S. boulardii is a live yeast. Therefore, simultaneously taking antifungals might kill a significant number of the organisms.

Here's the simple version: this one runs in the opposite direction from what people usually worry about. Caspofungin is an antifungal, and Saccharomyces boulardii is actually a live yeast. Since caspofungin's whole job is to slow the growth of yeast and fungi, taking the two together could kill off some of the probiotic, making it less effective. It does not make caspofungin itself riskier or weaker.

Keep in mind this is a theoretical concern based on how the drugs work, not something proven in patients, so I wouldn't be alarmed. Also, caspofungin is given by IV in serious infections, and people who are very sick or immune-compromised generally shouldn't use this probiotic anyway. Please check with your doctor or pharmacist before combining them.

Saccharomyces boulardii is a beneficial yeast used as a probiotic, with the strongest evidence for preventing and treating certain types of diarrhea, including antibiotic-associated diarrhea. It is generally well tolerated in healthy people, but those who are seriously ill or have weakened immune systems should avoid it because of rare but serious bloodstream infections. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before starting it.

About Caspofungin Injection

What Is Caspofungin Injection Used For?

Brand name: Cancidas

Caspofungin injection is used to treat several serious fungal infections in adults and children 3 months of age and older. These include candidemia (Candida fungus in the bloodstream), Candida infections inside the abdomen, esophageal candidiasis (Candida infection of the esophagus/swallowing tube), and invasive aspergillosis (a serious lung and tissue infection caused by Aspergillus fungus) in patients who have not responded to or cannot tolerate other antifungal treatments.

It is also used as empirical therapy — meaning it is started right away to protect patients who have a fever and very low white blood cell counts (a condition called febrile neutropenia) when a fungal infection is suspected but not yet confirmed. It is not approved to treat oropharyngeal candidiasis (thrush in the mouth/throat) or as the first treatment tried for invasive aspergillosis, and it has not been studied for Candida infections of the heart valves, bones, or brain.
