Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the thing to keep in mind with Abrilada (adalimumab-afzb): it's a biologic that calms down your immune system to treat conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, and Crohn's disease. That dampening effect means your body is already a little less able to fight off germs, so infections are a real concern while you're on it.

Thymus extract is made from raw animal (bovine) thymus glands, and the worry is that these products could carry bacteria or other contaminants. For someone whose immune defenses are turned down by Abrilada, even a small exposure to a germ could be a bigger deal than usual. This is a theoretical concern based on how the products are made, not proven harm, but it's worth taking seriously. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before using any thymus extract, and only consider a product certified pathogen-free.

About Thymus Extract

What is Thymus Extract?

  • Immune system support
  • Frequent infections
  • Allergies
  • Autoimmune conditions
  • Cancer supportive care

Thymus extract is a glandular product made from the thymus tissue of animals, and it is promoted mainly for immune support. The evidence is mostly limited, preliminary, or from older studies, so it should not replace proven treatments. Because it is an animal-tissue product, talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you have a serious medical condition.
