Drug & supplement interaction

Timothy Grass + Hydroxychloroquine

Hydroxychloroquine brand name: Plaquenil.

No Known Interaction
The bottom line No known interaction

We found no known interaction between Timothy Grass and Hydroxychloroquine in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first. Additionally, although there is no interaction, the label for Hydroxychloroquine states a food rule worth keeping to, and the two are separately associated with some of the same side effects, which would make a new symptom harder to attribute to one or the other.

Timothy Grass and Hydroxychloroquine

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Hydroxychloroquine and Timothy Grass in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

Worth understanding: our licensed dataset holds no drug-interaction record for Timothy Grass at all — not against Hydroxychloroquine, and not against any other medication we track. This verdict therefore rests on the absence of any recorded data, not on research that looked at this combination and found nothing. We cannot rule an interaction out.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

Timothy Grass safety at a glance

Timothy Grass overall Use caution Standardized immunotherapy products are prescription-only and can cause allergic reactions, so they require medical supervision.
Pregnancy Use caution Starting allergy immunotherapy during pregnancy is generally not recommended; discuss with your doctor.
Breastfeeding Not established There is little safety data, so talk with your doctor before use while breastfeeding.

Safety guidance is general; always confirm with your pharmacist or doctor for your situation.

No Interaction Found — But Data Suggests Timothy Grass and Hydroxychloroquine May Share Several of the Same Side Effects

This is not an interaction. Neither one changes how your body handles the other, and nothing here says they react together. What our sources do show is that each has separately been linked to the effects below — so taking both can make those effects more likely to turn up, and harder to pin on one or the other if they do. 3 of them are worth acting on rather than waiting out — marked below.

How to take them

Some Hydroxychloroquine Products Have a Food Rule — Timothy Grass Should Not Break It

At least one FDA label for a product containing Hydroxychloroquine says to take it with food. If you take Timothy Grass on an empty stomach out of habit, keep them separate — and take Hydroxychloroquine with a meal where the label says to.

This may not be true of your version. Food instructions belong to the product, not the ingredient: two Hydroxychloroquine products can carry different directions, and extended-release forms often differ from immediate-release ones. The label we read is quoted below — check the directions on your own box or bottle, or ask your pharmacist, for how to take the exact product you were given.

Rheumatoid Arthritis in Adults ( 2.3 ): Initial dosage: 400 mg to 600 mg daily Chronic dosage: 200 mg once daily or 400 mg once daily (or in two divided doses) Systemic Lupus Erythematosus in Adults ( 2.4 ): 200 mg once daily or 400 mg once daily (or in two divided doses) Chronic Discoid Lupus Erythematosus in Adults ( 2.5 ): 200 mg once daily or 400 mg once daily (or in two divided doses) 2.1 Imp

“Hydroxychloroquine (Plaquenil) can stretch the QT interval on its own, the pause between heartbeats that, prolonged too far, can trigger a dangerous rhythm. About Timothy Grass

What is Timothy Grass?

  • Grass pollen allergy (hay fever)
  • Allergic rhinitis
  • Allergic conjunctivitis (itchy, watery eyes)
  • Allergy desensitization (immunotherapy)
  • Allergy testing

Timothy grass is a common grass whose pollen is a major cause of seasonal hay fever. In medicine, a purified, standardized form of its pollen is used in prescription allergy immunotherapy tablets and shots to gradually reduce allergic reactions. It is not a typical dietary supplement, and any product containing timothy grass allergen should be used only under medical supervision.

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Timothy Grass is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Timothy Grass record says about it on its own.

Timothy Grass: dosing

There is no general supplement dose for timothy grass. The amount of allergen in immunotherapy products is carefully standardized by the manufacturer, and the right product and schedule depend on the individual.Sublingual tablets are usually taken once daily, often started before grass pollen season and continued as directed. Allergy shots follow a build-up and then maintenance schedule set by an allergist.Because dosing is specific and reactions are possible, you should only use timothy grass allergen products exactly as prescribed.

About Hydroxychloroquine

What Is Hydroxychloroquine Used For?

Brand name: Plaquenil

Hydroxychloroquine tablets are used to treat uncomplicated malaria and to help prevent malaria in areas where the parasite has not developed resistance to it — in both adults and children. It is also used in adults to treat rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), and chronic discoid lupus erythematosus.

There are important limits: it is not recommended for complicated or drug-resistant malaria, malaria acquired in regions where resistance is known, or to prevent malaria relapses caused by P. vivax or P. ovale. Its use for the autoimmune conditions (rheumatoid arthritis and lupus) is approved for adults only.

Do Timothy Grass and Hydroxychloroquine have any of the same side effects?
Yes — our sources link each of them separately to 4 of the same effects. That is not an interaction: neither changes how your body handles the other. It does mean that if one of those effects turns up, it can be harder to tell which one is behind it. They are listed on this page with the source behind each.
Should I take Timothy Grass and Hydroxychloroquine at the same time of day?
At least one FDA label for a product containing Hydroxychloroquine says to take it with food. If you take Timothy Grass on an empty stomach out of habit, keep them separate and take Hydroxychloroquine with a meal where the label says to. Food instructions belong to the product rather than the ingredient — two Hydroxychloroquine products can differ — so check the directions on your own box. This is about absorption, not an interaction.
Does Hydroxychloroquine interact with any supplements?
