Drug & supplement interaction

Tormentil + Lioresal

Lioresal brand name: Lioresal Injection.

No Known Interaction
The bottom line No known interaction

We found no known interaction between Tormentil and Lioresal in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first. Additionally, although there is no interaction, the two are separately associated with some of the same side effects, which would make a new symptom harder to attribute to one or the other.

Tormentil and Lioresal

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Lioresal and Tormentil in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

Worth understanding: our licensed dataset holds no drug-interaction record for Tormentil at all — not against Lioresal, and not against any other medication we track. This verdict therefore rests on the absence of any recorded data, not on research that looked at this combination and found nothing. We cannot rule an interaction out.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

No Interaction Found — But Data Suggests Tormentil and Lioresal May Share a Side Effect

This is not an interaction. Neither one changes how your body handles the other, and nothing here says they react together. What our sources do show is that each has separately been linked to the effects below — so taking both can make those effects more likely to turn up, and harder to pin on one or the other if they do.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Lioresal page

“Lioresal is baclofen, a muscle relaxant prescribed for spasticity, and I would treat its supplement list with genuine care. Of the ten ingredients on file, six, including everyday picks like melatonin and ginkgo, may lower the seizure threshold, an added worry with a drug whose abrupt changes can already provoke seizures.”

About Tormentil

What is Tormentil?

  • Diarrhea
  • Mouth and throat inflammation
  • Mild digestive upset
  • Sore throat (gargle)
  • Minor wounds and skin irritation

Tormentil is a traditional herb whose root is rich in tannins and has long been used for diarrhea and as a mouth rinse for sore gums or throat. Some small studies suggest it may help shorten diarrhea, but overall evidence is limited and quality is low. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it, and avoid it during pregnancy and breastfeeding because safety is not established.

Potentilla erecta · Rosaceae · Root and rhizome (underground stem) · Tincture, liquid extract, tea, capsules, mouth rinse

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Tormentil is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Tormentil record says about it on its own.

Tormentil: dosing

There is no official, standardized dose for tormentil, and products vary widely in strength. Tinctures, extracts, teas, and capsules will each have different recommended amounts. The safest approach is to follow the directions on the product label and not exceed them. If you are using it as a mouth rinse, do not swallow large amounts.

About Baclofen

What Is Baclofen Used For?

Brand name: Lioresal Injection

Baclofen treats spasticity, which means stiff, tight muscles with spasms. Oral baclofen (tablets, Baclofen oral solution, Ozobax, Baclofen oral suspension, Fleqsuvy, Lyvispah) is used for spasticity from multiple sclerosis, especially flexor spasms with pain, clonus (rhythmic jerking) and muscle rigidity. It may also help some people with spinal cord injuries and other spinal cord diseases.

Intrathecal baclofen (Gablofen, Lioresal Intrathecal and other baclofen injections) is used for severe spasticity. It is given into the fluid around the spinal cord, usually through an implanted pump. It is not for skeletal muscle spasm from rheumatic disorders, and baclofen tablets are not recommended for stroke, cerebral palsy or Parkinson’s disease.
