PHOTOSENSITIZING DRUGS
Why this applies to Acetaminophen, Chlorpheniramine, Dextromethorphan
Acetaminophen, Chlorpheniramine, Dextromethorphan falls under PHOTOSENSITIZING DRUGS — the group Wild Carrot interacts with.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the gist with this combo cold-and-flu product (the acetaminophen, chlorpheniramine, and dextromethorphan in Coricidin) and wild carrot: the concern isn't about how these drugs are broken down. Instead, wild carrot contains plant compounds that may make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. Some of these medicines, on their own, can also carry a small risk of sun sensitivity. So taken together, you might sunburn a little more easily than usual.
I'll be honest, this is a theoretical caution based on the plant's chemistry, not proven cases, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Just use sunscreen and cover up if you'll be outdoors. If you have questions or notice an unusual rash or burn, check in with your pharmacist or doctor.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Acetaminophen, Chlorpheniramine, Dextromethorphan page
“Alcohol is the risk to understand first. It carries major ratings alongside the acetaminophen, chlorpheniramine, and dextromethorphan combination sold as Coricidin II Extra Strength Cold and Flu, because acetaminophen already taxes the liver, and heavy drinking on top of it raises the chance of genuine liver injury.”

About Wild Carrot
What is Wild Carrot?
- Urinary and bladder complaints
- Digestive upset and gas
- Menstrual support
- Supporting milk production
- Mild diuretic (water pill) effect
Wild carrot is a traditional herb (the wild ancestor of the garden carrot) used mostly for urinary, digestive, and menstrual complaints. High-quality human studies are lacking, so its benefits are unproven, and it should be avoided in pregnancy because of traditional use to affect the uterus. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using it.
