Wild Carrot and Celiprolol

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.

Moderate

ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS

Why this applies to Celiprolol

Celiprolol falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Wild Carrot interacts with.

Theoretically, excessive doses of wild carrot seed oil might interfere with antihypertensive therapy due to cardiotonic effects.
Severity Moderate Likelihood Probable Evidence D

Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..

Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Celiprolol is a beta-blocker you take to help lower blood pressure and ease the load on your heart. The concern here is theoretical: in large amounts, wild carrot seed oil may have mild effects on the heart and blood vessels that could work against what celiprolol is trying to do. In plain terms, it might nudge your blood pressure in the wrong direction and make your medication less reliable.

This is based on lab and animal pharmacology, not solid human studies, so the real-world risk is uncertain. A culinary amount of carrot is no worry, but concentrated seed oil supplements are a different story. If you want to try wild carrot, please check with your pharmacist or doctor first, and keep an eye on your blood pressure readings.

“Someone taking celiprolol (Celicard) for high blood pressure may be the same person pouring apple juice at breakfast, and that ordinary habit is where this list bites. Nine of its 170 ingredients rate major, and those deserve your attention first.”

About Wild Carrot

What is Wild Carrot?

Wild Carrot
  • Urinary and bladder complaints
  • Digestive upset and gas
  • Menstrual support
  • Supporting milk production
  • Mild diuretic (water pill) effect

Wild carrot is a traditional herb (the wild ancestor of the garden carrot) used mostly for urinary, digestive, and menstrual complaints. High-quality human studies are lacking, so its benefits are unproven, and it should be avoided in pregnancy because of traditional use to affect the uterus. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using it.
