Here's the thing about iloprost (Ventavis): besides relaxing the blood vessels in your lungs, it also makes your platelets a little less sticky. Willow bark contains salicin, which the body turns into a substance closely related to aspirin, and it too can mildly thin the blood. So when you stack them together, you're nudging your bleeding risk up a bit from two directions at once.

This concern is mostly theoretical, based on how these two work rather than reports of real problems, and willow bark's blood-thinning effect is weaker than aspirin's. Still, keep an eye out for easy bruising, nosebleeds, or bleeding that's slow to stop. Before adding willow bark, please check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

Willow bark is a traditional plant remedy that contains salicin, a compound related to aspirin, and is most often used for pain and inflammation. Some evidence suggests it may modestly help low back pain and joint pain, but the research is limited and the right dose is not well standardized. Because it acts like aspirin, people with aspirin allergies, bleeding problems, or who are pregnant should be cautious and talk to a pharmacist or doctor first.

Aurlumyn (iloprost injection) is FDA-approved to treat severe frostbite in adults. Specifically, it is used to reduce the risk of losing fingers or toes (digit amputation) after serious frostbite injury. The clinical evidence supporting this use comes from young, healthy adults who suffered frostbite at high altitudes.
