Xanthan gum slows gastric emptying and has been used to control the release of drugs in tablet formulations. To avoid any alterations in drug absorption, xanthan gum should be taken 30-60 minutes after oral medications.

Here's the gist with doxepin and xanthan gum. Xanthan gum is a soluble fiber that turns into a gel in your stomach and gut, which can slow how fast things empty out. In theory, that gel could slow down how quickly your doxepin gets absorbed. This isn't a chemical clash, and the concern is mostly about timing, not safety. The evidence here is theoretical, based on how fiber behaves, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it.

If you take a lot of xanthan gum as a supplement or thickener, a simple fix is to space them out: take your doxepin first, then the xanthan gum about 30 to 60 minutes later. Small amounts in food are unlikely to matter. If you notice your doxepin feels weaker or slower to kick in for sleep, check in with your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.
