Meloxicam falls under ORAL DRUGS — the group Xanthan Gum interacts with.

Theoretically, xanthan gum can alter the absorption of oral drugs due to its fiber qualities. Xanthan gum slows gastric emptying and has been used to control the release of drugs in tablet formulations. To avoid any alterations in drug absorption, xanthan gum should be taken 30-60 minutes after oral medications.

Here's the gist with meloxicam and xanthan gum. Xanthan gum is a soluble fiber that turns into a thick gel in your stomach, and that gel can slow how fast things empty out of your stomach and into your intestines. In theory, that could slow down how quickly your body absorbs a swallowed meloxicam tablet. This isn't about meloxicam building up or becoming dangerous, it's just about timing. Meloxicam is already active when you take it (it's not a prodrug), so the worry would simply be a slightly slower or slightly blunted absorption.

Honestly, this is a theoretical concern based on how fiber behaves, not something proven to cause real problems. To stay on the safe side, a simple fix is to take your meloxicam first and wait about 30 to 60 minutes before any xanthan gum. If you use it daily as a thickener, just run it by your pharmacist.

It is generally recognized as safe in the small amounts found in food, but large doses can cause gas, bloating, and loose stools. About Meloxicam

What Is Meloxicam Used For?

Brand names: Mobic, Vivlodex, Qmiiz ODT, Anjeso

Meloxicam tablets and oral suspension treat the signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (JRA). The oral suspension and Zybic™ oral suspension are approved for JRA in children 2 years and older; meloxicam tablets are approved for JRA in patients who weigh at least 60 kg. Meloxicam capsules are approved specifically for the management of osteoarthritis pain.

Two IV (intravenous) formulations — QAMZOVA and XIFYRM — are indicated for adults for the management of moderate-to-severe pain, used alone or with non-NSAID pain relievers. Because these IV forms take time to reach full effect, they are not recommended when rapid pain relief is needed.
