Drug & supplement interaction

Yoga + Ivermectin

Ivermectin brand names: Stromectol, Mectizan, Sklice, Soolantra.

No Known Interaction
The bottom line No known interaction

We found no known interaction between Yoga and Ivermectin in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first. Additionally, although there is no interaction, the two are separately associated with some of the same side effects, which would make a new symptom harder to attribute to one or the other.

Yoga and Ivermectin

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Ivermectin and Yoga in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — research on Yoga alongside specific medications may be limited.

Worth understanding: our licensed dataset holds no drug-interaction record for Yoga at all — not against Ivermectin, and not against any other medication we track. This verdict therefore rests on the absence of any recorded data, not on research that looked at this combination and found nothing. We cannot rule an interaction out.

Yoga is a practice rather than something you take. Ask your care team whether the type and intensity you plan to practice are appropriate for your health and treatment. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

No Interaction Found — But Data Suggests Yoga and Ivermectin May Share Several of the Same Side Effects

This is not an interaction. Neither one changes how your body handles the other, and nothing here says they react together. What our sources do show is that each has separately been linked to the effects below — so practicing Yoga while taking the medicine can make those effects more likely to turn up, and harder to pin on one or the other if they do. One of them is worth acting on rather than waiting out — marked below.

“Chronic headache, sleep problems, cerebral hemorrhage, tingling, vertigo, and depressive symptoms have all been reported rarely by individuals practicing yoga. A case of acute cervical myelopathy with concurrent cervical arterial dissection is reported in a 63-year-old after performing the Vrischikasana yoga pose. The patient was hospitalized and recovered gradually following surgery and antithrombotic treatment.”

Reported for Yoga but not commonly for Ivermectin: low mood and numbness or tingling.

Effects for Ivermectin come from the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of its FDA label; effects for Yoga come from the Natural Medicines adverse-effect record, quoted above. Where a percentage is shown, it is the share of 6,298 voluntary FDA FAERS reports for Ivermectin that mention that effect — a reporting proportion, not an incidence rate and not evidence the drug caused it. Wording is matched across sources by our own clinical vocabulary, so treat this as a prompt to pay attention, not a diagnosis.

About Yoga

What is Yoga?

  • Stress and anxiety
  • Low back pain
  • Flexibility and balance
  • Sleep problems
  • Depression and mood
  • General wellness and fitness

Yoga is a mind-body practice combining physical postures, breathing techniques, and meditation, not a dietary supplement or herb. Research suggests it may help with stress, back pain, mood, and overall well-being, and it is generally safe for most people when practiced carefully. Beginners and those with health conditions should start gently and talk to a doctor before beginning.

Not applicable (mind-body practice) · Hatha yoga, Vinyasa, Iyengar, restorative yoga, breathing exercises (pranayama), meditation classes, online videos, group or private sessions

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Yoga is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Yoga record says about it on its own.

Yoga: dosing

There is no standard "dose" for yoga the way there is for a supplement. Benefits often come from regular, ongoing practice rather than a single session. Many studies use sessions lasting from about 30 to 90 minutes, practiced once or several times per week. A good approach is to start with shorter, gentler sessions and gradually build up as your comfort and ability improve. If you are new to yoga or have a health condition, consider working with a qualified instructor and checking with your doctor or pharmacist to make sure your chosen style is appropriate for you.

About Ivermectin

What Is Ivermectin Used For?

Brand names: Stromectol, Mectizan, Sklice, Soolantra

Ivermectin tablets (including Stromectol) are used to treat two parasitic infections: strongyloidiasis (a roundworm infection of the intestinal tract) and onchocerciasis (river blindness, caused by a parasitic worm spread by blackfly bites). These are prescription uses for serious infections.

Topical ivermectin lotion — sold under several names including RID One and Done, Head Lice Treatment Ivermectin Lotion, Scalp Care Lotions, and others — is applied to the scalp to treat head lice. A separate topical ivermectin cream (1%), available as Soolantra and ivermectin cream 1%, is used to treat the inflammatory pimple-like bumps of rosacea.

Practicing Yoga While Taking Ivermectin: Common Questions

Is it safe to practice Yoga while taking Ivermectin?
We do not list a known interaction between Yoga and Ivermectin. That does not guarantee the combination is risk-free, so confirm with your pharmacist or doctor — especially if you take other medications or have a health condition.
Do Yoga and Ivermectin have any of the same side effects?
Yes — our sources link each of them separately to 4 of the same effects. That is not an interaction: neither changes how your body handles the other. It does mean that if one of those effects turns up, it can be harder to tell which one is behind it. They are listed on this page with the source behind each.
Does Ivermectin interact with any supplements?
Yes. Ivermectin has documented interactions with 58 supplements in our database — Yoga is not one of them. The Ivermectin interaction page linked on this page lists every one, ranked by severity.
