What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: L-tyrosine, an amino acid your body uses to make several important compounds, including thyroid hormones and neurotransmitters. The supplement comes as a powder with absolutely no inactive ingredients listed.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
L-tyrosine is effective for phenylketonuria (PKU), a rare inherited metabolic condition. For cognitive function and memory, the evidence suggests it's possibly effective — the data shows some benefit, but more research would strengthen the case.
For athletic performance, it's rated possibly ineffective. For alcohol use disorder and dementia, there's not enough reliable evidence yet to say one way or the other.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
L-tyrosine is generally well tolerated in healthy adults, though you should talk to your healthcare provider before using it regularly. The most common side effects reported are fatigue, headache, heartburn, and nausea.
Larger doses can bring on headache and fatigue; if you experience these, lowering your dose often helps. There isn't enough safety data to recommend supplemental tyrosine unless a doctor advises it, and the same caution applies if you're breastfeeding — talk with your healthcare provider or pharmacist about whether it's right for you.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check before starting if you take levodopa (a Parkinson's medication) or thyroid hormone medications — both are Moderate-severity interactions. Separate your tyrosine dose from levodopa by at least 2 hours if you take both.
Your pharmacist can help you time them safely.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This is a straightforward single-ingredient supplement that works well for PKU and may help with memory and focus. If you take levodopa or thyroid medications, you'll need to be careful and check your exact drugs with us first.
Before you start, especially if you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or take any regular medication, talk with your pharmacist or doctor.

100% Pure L-Tyrosine by NutraBio Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
NutraBio's 100% Pure L-Tyrosine is a single-ingredient supplement that does interact with certain medications.
The main concern is with levodopa (a Parkinson's medication): tyrosine and levodopa compete for how your body absorbs them in the small intestine, which means tyrosine might make levodopa less effective. If you take levodopa, you'll want to space doses of tyrosine and levodopa at least 2 hours apart.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
The other significant interaction is with thyroid hormone medications (Moderate severity). Since tyrosine is a building block your body uses to make thyroid hormones, taking extra tyrosine might amplify the effect of your thyroid medication.
Altogether, these interactions span 21 individual medications. Before you start this product, use the medication checker below with your exact prescriptions — especially if you take levodopa or thyroid hormones.
