What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: Affron Eye, a saffron extract, at 20 mg per capsule. Saffron is the dried stigma (the female part) of the crocus flower and has been studied for effects on nerve damage from cancer treatment and age-related brain changes.
The capsule also contains acacia gum as an inactive ingredient.
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence we hold shows that saffron is possibly effective for chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy—nerve pain and damage that can happen during or after certain cancer treatments. It's also possibly effective for Alzheimer disease.
That means there's some clinical research supporting its use, but more study is needed to be certain. The data doesn't establish effectiveness for other uses.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Saffron extract is generally well tolerated when taken by mouth. The most common side effects in trials were gastrointestinal complaints, nausea, sedation, and vomiting.
A rare but serious reaction—anaphylaxis (severe allergic reaction)—has been reported; allergic reactions can happen within minutes. Some people have developed allergies to saffron through occupational exposure, leading to allergic inflammation of the eyes and nose or asthma.
At higher doses in trials, some people reported anxiety and hypomania (a state of abnormally elevated mood). For pregnancy, the safety data advises against medicinal or supplement amounts of saffron because it may stimulate the uterus.
For breastfeeding, there isn't enough reliable safety information, so avoid supplement amounts. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized guidance if you're pregnant, nursing, or planning either.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking Affron Eye, check if you use CNS depressants (sedatives, sleeping pills, anxiety medications), blood pressure medications (antihypertensives), or diabetes drugs. All three have documented moderate interactions with saffron.
If you regularly drink a lot of caffeinated beverages or take caffeine supplements, that's worth discussing too.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Affron Eye may be worth considering if you're dealing with chemotherapy-related nerve pain or cognitive concerns related to Alzheimer disease and want to explore possibly effective options. But if you take sedatives, blood pressure medications, diabetes medications, or consume a lot of caffeine, you'll need to check with your pharmacist first—this product can amplify their effects.
Anyone allergic to saffron should skip it, and pregnant or breastfeeding women should talk with their healthcare provider.

Affron Eye 20 mg by SuperSmart Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Affron Eye by SuperSmart contains saffron, which does interact with several medication types.
The most serious concern is with CNS depressants—drugs like sedatives, sleeping pills, and some anxiety medications. Saffron can add to their sedative effect, and clinical research shows that saffron extract itself causes drowsiness and sedation at the dose used in trials.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Saffron also has moderate interactions with blood pressure medications (antihypertensives) and diabetes drugs. It can lower blood pressure on its own, so taking it with blood pressure medication might drop your pressure further.
Similarly, it may increase the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) when combined with diabetes medications, though the effect is clearer with saffron extract than with saffron powder.
One more thing to know: saffron may slow how your body clears caffeine, which could increase caffeine's effects. Altogether, these interactions span 518 individual medications.
Before you start this product, use the medication checker on this page to see if anything you take is affected.

For each ingredient in Affron Eye 20 mg with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Affron Eye
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, concomitant use of saffron with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Some clinical research shows that taking saffron extract reduces fasting levels of glucose when used in addition to hypoglycemic agents. However, saffron powder itself has not been shown to reduce fasting glucose levels.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, concomitant use of saffron with antihypertensive drugs might have additive effects.
Animal and human research suggests that saffron extract can decrease blood pressure.
Caffeine
Theoretically, saffron might inhibit the metabolism of caffeine.
A small clinical study suggests that taking saffron powder 300 mg in 150 mL water daily for 5 days and then taking caffeine 200 mg seems to reduce caffeine metabolite levels in the saliva and urine in males, but not females. Theoretically, this may be due to the inhibition of cytochrome P450 1A2 by saffron.
Cns Depressants
Theoretically, concomitant use of saffron and CNS depressants might have additive sedative effects.
Clinical research shows that taking saffron extract 60 mg orally daily for 26 weeks can cause drowsiness and sedation. Animal research suggests that adding saffron to hexobarbital further increases sleeping and slows motor activity.
