What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Alpha GPC against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains 2 active ingredients. The first is calcium phosphate, a mineral form of calcium.
The second is L-Alpha-Glycerylphosphorylcholine (alpha-GPC), a compound derived from soy lecithin that's sometimes called a nootropic — it's meant to support brain and memory function. The capsules also contain hypromellose and water as inactive ingredients.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The calcium in this product is effective for several purposes: it's established to work for kidney failure, indigestion (dyspepsia), low blood calcium (hypocalcemia), high potassium (hyperkalemia), and is likely effective for osteoporosis. Alpha-GPC is possibly effective for Alzheimer disease, but the evidence isn't established yet for cognitive function, vascular dementia, stroke, or brain tumors.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Calcium is generally well tolerated at recommended doses, though high amounts can cause trouble. Common side effects from oral calcium are belching, constipation, diarrhea, bloating, and stomach upset.
Rare serious concerns include kidney stones and a skin condition called calciphylaxis. There's also some worry that very high doses (over 1500–2000 mg daily) might raise prostate cancer risk and possibly increase cardiovascular disease risk, though research on this has limitations.
Alpha-GPC is generally well tolerated in studies, but long-term safety isn't fully established. Rarely it's been linked to dizziness, headache, insomnia, and stroke with use of 2 months or more.
It's also rarely caused nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and heartburn.
Meds to double-check
Major interaction found
Check these medication types before taking this product: HIV integrase inhibitors (dolutegravir, elvitegravir) — Major concern; any intravenous ceftriaxone — Major concern; levothyroxine for thyroid — Moderate concern; heart rhythm or blood pressure drugs like sotalol or diltiazem — Moderate concern; and raltegravir if you take it — Moderate concern. Additionally, if you use scopolamine patches (Transderm Scop) for motion sickness, alpha-GPC might reduce their effect.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Major medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This product is for people looking to supplement calcium intake and support brain function. If you take any prescription medications — especially HIV drugs, heart medications, or levothyroxine for thyroid — you need to check with your pharmacist first.
Talk with your doctor or pharmacist before starting, especially if you have a history of kidney stones or heart disease.

Alpha GPC by NutraBio Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Alpha GPC by NutraBio contains calcium phosphate, which interacts with a number of medications.
The most serious concern is with integrase inhibitors — dolutegravir (Tivicay) and elvitegravir (Vitekta) — where calcium can cut their blood levels by up to 40%. You'll need to separate doses: take these drugs either 2 hours before or 6 hours after (and 2 hours after for elvitegravir) taking this supplement.
Intravenous ceftriaxone (Rocephin) is also a Major concern; calcium given by IV can form dangerous crystals in the lungs and kidneys, so you must avoid IV calcium for 48 hours on either side of IV ceftriaxone.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Moderate interactions exist with raltegravir (Isentress), where calcium modestly lowers drug levels but may not require dose adjustment; levothyroxine (Synthroid), where calcium cuts absorption and you should space doses 4 hours apart; the heart rhythm drug sotalol (Betapace), requiring a 2-hour gap before or 4–6 hours after; and the blood pressure medication diltiazem (Cardizem), where calcium might weaken its effect. Calcipotriene (Dovonex), a vitamin D cream for psoriasis, could theoretically raise calcium levels too much if combined with this supplement.
Alpha-GPC itself carries one documented Minor interaction: it may partially reduce the anti-motion sickness effect of scopolamine patches (Transderm Scop).
Albogether, these interactions span 183 individual medications. Use the medication checker on this page to verify your exact prescriptions before starting.

Alpha-Glycerylphosphorylcholine, Powder
Scopolamine (Transderm Scop)
Theoretically, alpha-GPC might decrease the effects of scopolamine.
A small clinical study shows that alpha-GPC can partially counteract the attention and memory impairment effects caused by scopolamine given intramuscularly. Whether alpha-GPC can decrease the beneficial anti-motion sickness effects of the scopolamine patch (Transderm Scop) is unclear.
