Amino Acid Complex Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by SuperLife
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Amino Acid Complex against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains 20 amino acids—the building blocks of protein. The main actives include L-glutamine (often used for gut and immune support), glycine, L-leucine, L-alanine, L-isoleucine, L-methionine, L-lysine, L-tyrosine, L-phenylalanine, L-valine, L-proline, L-ornithine, L-aspartic acid, L-histidine, L-threonine, L-cysteine, L-serine, taurine, L-arginine, and L-carnitine.
The product also lists several blended groups (Essential Amino Acids, Non-Essential Amino Acids, Free-Form Amino Acid Complex, Essential BCAAs, and Conditional Amino Acids) whose individual components are accounted for in the formula. Inactive ingredients are gelatin and titanium dioxide.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for this product's ingredients is mixed. L-Glutamine is effective for sickle cell disease and possibly effective for HIV/AIDS-related wasting, postoperative recovery, and critical illness.
L-Tyrosine is effective for phenylketonuria (PKU) and possibly effective for cognitive function and memory. L-Lysine is possibly effective for cold sores.
L-Carnitine is effective for carnitine deficiency and possibly effective for high cholesterol, heart failure, and angina. L-Serine and glycine are possibly effective for schizophrenia.
L-Ornithine is possibly effective for athletic performance, and taurine is possibly effective for hepatitis and heart failure. However, most other uses across the ingredients show insufficient reliable evidence to determine whether they work—for example, effects on ADHD, bone health, athletic performance in general, and cognitive function in dementia are not established in the data we hold.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
The ingredients are generally well tolerated at typical doses, though side effects do occur. L-Glutamine can cause belching, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting—especially at higher doses—and is best avoided in kidney or liver disease without medical oversight.
L-Phenylalanine may cause anxiety, insomnia, headache, nausea, and constipation, and must be avoided in pregnancy and breastfeeding. L-Tyrosine and L-Arginine can cause headache, nausea, and diarrhea.
L-Carnitine may cause a fish-like body odor and digestive upset. L-Serine at high doses carries a rare risk of seizures.
Taurine is generally well tolerated short-term. L-Lysine and L-Threonine may cause digestive upset.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding safety varies by ingredient: L-Glutamine, L-Methionine, L-Cysteine, and Taurine are rated likely safe; others either lack sufficient data or are advised against—check the ingredient-by-ingredient safety notes above before use if you are pregnant or nursing.
Meds to double-check
Major interaction found
Double-check this product with your pharmacist if you take any of these: levodopa or other Parkinson's drugs (L-phenylalanine and L-tyrosine compete for absorption), antiseizure medications (anticonvulsants), monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), baclofen, blood pressure-lowering drugs, blood thinners (warfarin, acenocoumarol, antiplatelet drugs), potassium-sparing diuretics, antidiabetes drugs, ACE inhibitors, angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs), lithium, thyroid hormone, or clozapine.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Major medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This amino acid complex may be worth considering if you have a specific deficiency or are recovering from illness, since some ingredients have proven benefit in those areas. However, if you take Parkinson's medication, blood pressure drugs, blood thinners, diabetes medications, MAOIs, or thyroid hormone, talk to your pharmacist or doctor first—several ingredients in this product could interfere with how those medications work.
The same goes for pregnancy, breastfeeding, kidney or liver disease, or bipolar disorder.

Amino Acid Complex by SuperLife Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
SuperLife's Amino Acid Complex contains 20 ingredients, several of which interact with medications.
The most serious interaction involves L-phenylalanine and levodopa (Parkinson's medication): phenylalanine competes with levodopa for transport into the brain, reducing levodopa levels and potentially worsening tremor, rigidity, and movement fluctuations.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
L-phenylalanine also interacts with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs, used for depression) at moderate severity—it may increase the risk of dangerously high blood pressure. Baclofen (a muscle relaxant) absorption can be reduced by phenylalanine.
L-Tyrosine presents moderate interactions with levodopa (similar competition for absorption; separate doses by at least 2 hours) and thyroid hormone medications, where it may have additive effects.
L-Arginine carries multiple moderate interactions: antihypertensive drugs (blood pressure lowering agents), potassium-sparing diuretics, blood thinners (anticoagulants and antiplatelet drugs), antidiabetes medications, ACE inhibitors, angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs), isoproterenol, and sildenafil (Viagra)—all carry risk of low blood pressure or high potassium. L-Carnitine moderately interacts with warfarin and acenocoumarol (blood thinners) and thyroid hormone.
Taurine may increase the effect of blood pressure-lowering drugs and lithium. L-Cysteine may add to antidiabetes drugs and increase low-blood-sugar risk.
Glutamine theoretically antagonizes anticonvulsant medications, and glycine may worsen schizophrenia symptoms in patients on clozapine. L-Threonine may reduce the effect of NMDA antagonists (used in some neurological conditions).
We could not check L-Leucine, L-Alanine, and L-Isoleucine for interactions. Several others—L-Methionine, L-Proline, L-Ornithine, L-Aspartic Acid, L-Histidine, L-Serine—were checked and have no documented interactions.
Altogether, these interactions span 486 individual medications. Please run your exact medications through the checker below before taking this product.
