Apple Cider Vinegar Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Apple Cider Vinegar against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Apple Cider Vinegar by Simply Supplements
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: apple cider vinegar powder. It's made from fermented apple juice and is sometimes used as a dietary supplement.
The capsule itself is gelatin, an inactive ingredient that holds the powder.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence for apple cider vinegar's effectiveness isn't established in the data we hold. The product is marketed for acne, athletic performance, cognitive function, dental plaque, depression, and atopic dermatitis (eczema), but we have insufficient reliable evidence to rate how well it actually works for any of these purposes.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Apple cider vinegar in the small amounts you'd eat as food is generally well tolerated. However, the safety data gets thinner once you move to larger supplement doses or long-term use.
In rare cases, people taking large daily amounts over years have reported low potassium (hypokalemia), elevated renin levels, and osteoporosis. Applied directly to skin, it may cause chemical burns and irritation.
The data on supplement-dose safety is limited, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist before using medicinal amounts, especially if you have kidney or bone concerns.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you take this, double-check your exact medications with the tool on this page if you're on digoxin (Lanoxin) or any other heart medication, diuretics (water pills), insulin, or antidiabetes drugs. Apple cider vinegar can lower potassium and blood sugar in ways that could affect how these work.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This is a one-ingredient supplement that works best for people eating normal food amounts who aren't on heart, blood pressure, or diabetes medications. If you take digoxin, diuretics, insulin, or other diabetes drugs, check with your own doctor or pharmacist before starting — the potassium and blood-sugar effects matter for your safety.
Avoid applying it directly to skin.
