Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: artichoke extract, a concentrated form of the artichoke plant. It's sold as a powder with no inactive ingredients listed.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Artichoke extract is possibly effective for high cholesterol (hyperlipidemia) and indigestion (dyspepsia) based on the evidence we hold. For nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, the evidence isn't established enough to rate it.
If you're considering this for one of those first two uses, talk with your pharmacist or doctor about whether the research supports it for your particular situation.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Artichoke extract is generally well tolerated as a food and short-term supplement, though quality and dosing vary between products. The most common side effects from oral use are abdominal pain, diarrhea, gas, increased hunger, and nausea.
A small number of people have reported redness in the face and sweating. If you're allergic to ragweed, chrysanthemums, daisies, marigolds, or other plants in the Asteraceae family, you may react to artichoke—it comes from that plant family.
Rarely, people with inulin sensitivity have had severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis) to artichoke inulin. Artichoke is not recommended in supplement form during pregnancy or breastfeeding, as safety data is insufficient or absent.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Double-check this product if you take blood pressure medications (antihypertensive drugs) or blood sugar medications (antidiabetes drugs)—both carry moderate interaction risk. Also flag any drugs your liver metabolizes through the CYP2C19 or CYP2B6 pathways, since artichoke may raise their levels, though this hasn't been seen in people yet.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Artichoke extract may help with cholesterol or indigestion, but if you take blood pressure or blood sugar medication, you need to check your specific drugs with your pharmacist first. If you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or allergic to ragweed and related plants, skip it.

Artichoke Extract by BulkSupplements.com Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Artichoke Extract by BulkSupplements.com does interact with several medication types, and the most serious concern is with blood pressure medications.
Artichoke leaf extract can theoretically lower blood pressure further when combined with antihypertensive drugs, increasing your risk of dangerously low blood pressure (hypotension). Studies show the extract itself reduces systolic blood pressure by about 3 mmHg and diastolic by about 2 mmHg compared to placebo.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
You'll also want to check if you take blood sugar medications (antidiabetes drugs). Artichoke extract can theoretically raise the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) when used together, since the extract has been shown in studies to modestly lower fasting blood sugar over 8–12 weeks.
Additionally, artichoke may affect how your liver breaks down certain medications. In the lab, it inhibits two liver enzymes—CYP2C19 and CYP2B6—which could theoretically raise levels of drugs metabolized by those pathways.
This hasn't been reported in people yet, but it's worth flagging. Altogether, these interactions span 360 individual medications.
