What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: asafoetida powder. Asafoetida is a resin traditionally used in cooking and herbal practice.
There are no inactive ingredients listed.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The product facts we hold don't include an effectiveness rating for asafoetida. We don't have established evidence on file for what it may or may not do.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Asafoetida appears generally well tolerated in food amounts, but medicinal doses haven't been well studied. In larger amounts, it may cause swelling of the lips, belching, gas, diarrhea, headache, or in rare cases convulsions.
At doses of 50–100 mg, headache or convulsions have been reported. There's also a risk of a serious blood condition called methemoglobinemia, especially in infants—cases have been documented in babies given asafoetida for colic.
Asafoetida is not recommended during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. The safety data advises against medicinal amounts in pregnancy, and supplement doses aren't considered safe during breastfeeding.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check before starting if you take antihypertensive drugs (blood pressure medications) or anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs (blood thinners or NSAIDs). Both interactions are Moderate severity and could change how your medications work or increase your bleeding risk.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Asafoetida is a traditional culinary spice, but using it as a medicinal supplement comes with real caution flags—especially if you're on blood pressure or blood-thinning medication. The safety data in larger doses is thin.
If you're considering it for a health purpose, talk with your pharmacist or doctor first about your medications and whether it's right for you.

HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Asafoetida Powder by TerraVita Premium Collection does interact with medications, particularly if you're on blood pressure drugs or blood thinners.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
The main concern is asafoetida's blood-pressure-lowering effects. If you take antihypertensive drugs (like captopril, enalapril, losartan, valsartan, diltiazem, and others), asafoetida may boost their effects and lower your blood pressure further than intended.
This is a Moderate-severity interaction.
The second concern is bleeding risk. Asafoetida may increase bleeding when combined with blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (like aspirin, clopidogrel, NSAIDs such as ibuprofen and naproxen, and injectable anticoagulants like enoxaparin).
This is also Moderate severity.
Altogether, these interactions span 287 individual medications. Before you start asafoetida in supplement amounts, use the medication checker on this page with your exact prescriptions.
