What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: vitamin B12, a nutrient your body needs for nerve function, red blood cell formation, and DNA synthesis. The liquid also includes inactive ingredients—purified water, vegetable glycerin, citric acid, potassium sorbate, and natural spearmint flavor—which help deliver and preserve the B12.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Vitamin B12 is effective for treating B12 deficiency and Imerslund-Grasbeck disease (a rare condition affecting B12 absorption). It's also likely effective for cyanide poisoning.
The evidence shows it's possibly effective for canker sores and postherpetic neuralgia (nerve pain after shingles), though the data on those uses is less robust.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
B12 is generally well-tolerated. Your body flushes out excess B12 in your urine, so there's no established upper limit—you can't overdose on it.
The most common side effects come with injections (minor reactions at the injection site). Rarely, allergic reactions like rash or itching have been reported.
In very rare cases, correcting severe B12 deficiency has been linked to a serious drop in potassium (low blood potassium); this is extremely uncommon and mainly a concern when treating severe anemia. B12 is needed in pregnancy and is considered safe at normal recommended amounts; follow your doctor's guidance.
It's also important during breastfeeding and safe at recommended amounts.
Meds to double-check
Minor interactions only
If you take metformin (Glucophage) or another diabetes medication, check your exact drug name in the interaction tool on this page before you begin. Metformin can lower B12 levels over time, and this supplement may help—but we want to make sure it's safe for you personally.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with clinical evidence supporting its stated purpose. Only minor medication interactions are documented, and safety information is well characterized.
This B12 supplement is a good option if you have low B12 or need to prevent deficiency—it's very safe and well-tolerated. If you take metformin for diabetes, check with us first: the medication can lower your B12, so you may benefit from this, but we want to confirm it's right for your situation.
