Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: a Barbed Skullcap Root Extract in dry form. Skullcap has been used traditionally to support relaxation and calm, though the evidence for most of those uses hasn't been firmly established.

The liquid formulation includes alcohol, water, and glycerin as inactive ingredients to deliver the extract.

Does it work?

Insufficient evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Insufficient

There isn't enough reliable clinical evidence to rate this product's ingredients for its stated purpose.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: Anxiety, stress, and sleep support.
  • We looked for evidence on: Anxiety, Insomnia, Stress, Nervous tension, Relaxation, Sleep quality.
  • The closest evidence on file: Skullcap is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Anxiety (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Skullcap is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Insomnia, Stress.

The evidence we hold doesn't establish that barbed skullcap is effective for any of the conditions it's been studied for — epilepsy, stress, stroke, spasticity, contact dermatitis, or premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). All of those have been rated insufficient reliable evidence to rate.

That doesn't mean skullcap doesn't work; it means the data available to us isn't strong enough to say either way.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Skullcap is often used for short periods, but evidence on its safety is limited and product quality varies, so use it with care. The most commonly reported side effects when taken by mouth are cognitive impairment, digestive disturbances, and sedation.

At a 100 mg dose, adverse effects on the brain weren't seen in research; however, at 200 mg or higher, sedation and cognitive impairment appeared more likely. One person taking 350 mg three times daily for 2 weeks reported vivid dreams, though it's unclear if skullcap caused it.

Mild digestive issues showed up in roughly 9% of people taking the 350 mg three-times-daily dose over 2 weeks. The safety data advises against skullcap during pregnancy.

While breastfeeding, safety is unknown, so it's best to avoid it. If you're pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding, talk with your pharmacist or doctor before taking this.

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Skullcap.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • For scale: 248 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Before you take this product, double-check any CNS depressants you're on — that includes sleep aids, benzodiazepines (like diazepam), barbiturates, and opioids. These drugs can have additive sedating effects when combined with skullcap, raising the risk of drowsiness and cognitive impairment.

Use the medication checker on this page to look up your exact prescriptions and over-the-counter medications.
