This product contains one active ingredient: Beet Leaf Extract, Dry. It's the concentrated form of beet leaf, which is where much of the plant's active compounds — including betanin, the major pigment — are found.
The inactive ingredients are alcohol, water, and glycerin, which are used to extract and preserve the beet compounds in liquid form.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence supports beet extract for athletic performance and exercise-induced muscle soreness — both are rated possibly effective, meaning some studies show benefit but more research is needed to be sure. For chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), the data suggests it's possibly ineffective.
The evidence isn't established for dyslipidemia (abnormal blood fat levels) or cognitive function — we don't have enough reliable research yet to say whether it works.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Beet is widely eaten as food and is generally well tolerated in most adults. Short-term medicinal use is also considered generally well tolerated.
However, concentrated supplements like this one lack the safety data that whole food has, so the caution is to use it with that in mind. The most common side effects are red stools and red urine — this is harmless and just the pigment passing through.
Rarely, black stools have been reported. In very large amounts, beet can theoretically lower blood calcium (hypocalcemia) or damage kidneys because of its oxalate content.

Beet may also affect drugs processed by another liver enzyme, CYP1A2 (substrates of cytochrome P450 1A2), though in the opposite way — it may lower their levels and reduce how well they work. This is minor in severity.
Blood pressure medications (antihypertensives) are another consideration: beet contains nitrates that can relax blood vessels and lower blood pressure, but study data is mixed on how much it actually affects pressure in real use — also minor.

Beet Leaf Extract, Dry
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
Theoretically, beet might increase the levels of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that betanin, the major pigment in beet, competitively inhibits CYP3A4 in a dose-dependent manner similarly to strong CYP3A4 inhibitor ketoconazole.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Beet and beetroot contain nitrates, which can cause vasodilation, potentially leading to lower blood pressure. However, a study published in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition using concentrated beetroot juice found no significant impact on blood pressure or heart rate in different age groups. Other small clinical studies suggest that while beet consumption might transiently lower blood pressure due to vessel dilation, there's no consistent evidence of a lasting effect. Overall, the theoretical risk of reduced blood pressure due to beet's nitrate content exists, but studies generally indicate a low and temporary impact rather than a sustained decrease.
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates
Theoretically, beet might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that beet induces CYP1A2 enzymes.
