Burdock Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Burdock against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: burdock root. Burdock is a plant that's been used traditionally for centuries, often as a food and in herbal preparations.
The capsule also holds inactive ingredients—cellulose, magnesium stearate, and silicon dioxide—which are common binders and flow agents used to make the capsule hold together and move through the manufacturing process smoothly.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence for burdock's effectiveness isn't established yet in the data we hold. Studies haven't found reliable proof that it works for acne, aging skin, breast cancer, common cold, or atopic dermatitis (eczema).
That doesn't mean it doesn't work—it means more research is needed before we can say one way or the other.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Burdock is generally well tolerated when eaten as a food, and short-term use appears safe in healthy adults, though human safety data are limited. Rare serious allergic reactions—including contact dermatitis and anaphylaxis—have been reported.
One case of liver damage was reported in a person taking a herbal detox tea that contained burdock along with other ingredients, but it's unclear whether burdock was the culprit. Contact dermatitis, especially from prolonged use of burdock root oil or burdock plasters applied to skin, has also been documented.
During pregnancy, avoid medicinal amounts of burdock because safety data are lacking and it may affect the uterus. While breastfeeding, there isn't enough safety information, so it's best to avoid medicinal use.
Talk with your doctor or pharmacist if you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding and want to use burdock.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you start burdock, double-check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take any blood thinners (anticoagulants) or antiplatelet drugs—including warfarin, dabigatran, aspirin, clopidogrel, or similar medications. Burdock may increase your bleeding risk when combined with these drugs.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Burdock may be worth considering if you're interested in traditional herbal support, but evidence for specific uses isn't solid yet. If you take blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs, check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting—the interaction risk is real enough to warrant a conversation.
The same goes if you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a history of allergies or liver issues.
