RememBrain contains four active ingredients chosen for brain health. Vitamin B12 is a B vitamin essential for nerve function and energy.
Phosphatidyl serine is a fat-like compound found in cell membranes that may support cognitive decline. Huperzine A is an alkaloid derived from a club moss that affects how the brain uses acetylcholine, a chemical involved in memory and attention.
Alpha-GPC is a choline compound thought to support brain cell structure and function. The product also contains inactive ingredients—cellulose, silica, magnesium stearate, and stearic acid—which are fillers and binders used to make the capsule.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for these ingredients varies. Vitamin B12 is effective for B12 deficiency and some rare conditions, and is likely effective for cyanide poisoning.
Phosphatidyl serine and huperzine A are both possibly effective for Alzheimer disease and age-related cognitive decline, though the evidence is not definitive. Alpha-GPC is possibly effective for Alzheimer disease as well.
For other uses listed—cognitive function, ADHD, depression, memory, athletic performance, and dementia—the evidence we hold is insufficient to rate these ingredients reliably.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Vitamin B12 is generally very well tolerated and is safe at normal recommended amounts during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Phosphatidyl serine, huperzine A, and alpha-GPC are generally well tolerated in studies, but long-term safety data is limited.
Side effects are mostly mild—huperzine A and phosphatidyl serine can cause gastrointestinal upset, headache, insomnia, and nausea, especially at higher doses. Huperzine A can also cause dose-dependent cholinergic side effects like blurred vision, dizziness, dry mouth, and sweating.
Rarely, alpha-GPC has been associated with stroke. Phosphatidyl serine and huperzine A should be avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding because safety data is insufficient.
Alpha-GPC should also be avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding unless your doctor advises otherwise.

Phosphatidyl Serine
Anticholinergic Drugs
Theoretically, phosphatidylserine might decrease the effectiveness anticholinergic drugs.
Phosphatidylserine is thought to increase acetylcholine levels, which could theoretically interfere with the activity of anticholinergic agents.
Cholinergic Drugs
Theoretically, phosphatidylserine might have additive effects with cholinergic drugs.
Phosphatidylserine is thought to increase acetylcholine levels, which could theoretically lead to additive cholinergic effects when used with cholinergic drugs.
Huperzine A
Anticholinergic Drugs
Theoretically, huperzine A might decrease the effects of anticholinergic drugs.
Huperzine A has acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibiting effects. In animal models, huperzine A reversed cognitive deficits induced by scopolamine, an anticholinergic drug.
Cholinergic Drugs
Theoretically, concurrent use of huperzine A with cholinergic drugs might increase the effects and side effects of these medications.
Huperzine A can inhibit acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and might cause cumulative effects if used with cholinergic drugs.
Vitamin B12
Metformin (Glucophage)
Metformin, a common medication used to manage type 2 diabetes, has been associated with lower vitamin B12 levels in some individuals. Prolonged use of metformin can interfere with the absorption of B12 in the digestive system, potentially leading to a deficiency in this essential vitamin.
Alpha-GPC
Scopolamine (Transderm Scop)
Theoretically, alpha-GPC might decrease the effects of scopolamine.
A small clinical study shows that alpha-GPC can partially counteract the attention and memory impairment effects caused by scopolamine given intramuscularly. Whether alpha-GPC can decrease the beneficial anti-motion sickness effects of the scopolamine patch (Transderm Scop) is unclear.
