This product contains 18 active enzymes designed to support digestion. Amylase breaks down carbohydrates, lipase handles fats, and proteases (protease 1 and 2) break down proteins.
Papain and bromelain are proteases sourced from papaya and pineapple, respectively. You'll also find lactase (which helps digest milk sugar in people with lactose intolerance), cellulase, aspergillopepsin, peptidase, invertase, glucoamylase, xylanase, pectinase, beta-glucanase, phytase, hemicellulase, and alpha-galactosidase — all enzymes that break down different components of food.
The capsule also contains inactive ingredients: maltodextrin, hypromellose, water, and medium chain triglyceride.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
The evidence for most of these enzymes is not established in the data we hold. Lactase is the exception — it's rated effective for lactose intolerance.
For the others, including papain, bromelain, lipase, and the proteases, the facts show insufficient reliable evidence for their intended uses, which range from digestive support to managing specific conditions. That doesn't mean they don't work; it means large, high-quality studies backing their use aren't yet in our records.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Most of these enzymes are generally well tolerated at standard doses. Papain and bromelain can cause allergic reactions in sensitive people — itching, hives, digestive upset, or in rare cases with high doses, severe gastritis or even esophageal damage.
Bromelain commonly causes diarrhea, gas, and stomach upset. Lactase is generally well tolerated and rated likely safe in pregnancy.
For papain, the safety data advises against concentrated forms and unripe papaya products in pregnancy, and there isn't enough data to recommend supplemental papain while breastfeeding. Bromelain should be avoided in pregnancy and breastfeeding because of insufficient safety data.
For lipase and phytase, there's limited pregnancy and breastfeeding data, so check with your doctor before regular use.

Papain may increase the effects and side effects of warfarin (Coumadin), a blood thinner. One patient on a stable warfarin dose developed a dangerously high blood-thinning level after taking a papain-containing supplement, so if you're on warfarin, you'll want to check this product with your pharmacist before starting.

Bromelain
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Bromelain may have antiplatelet effects and may increase the risk of bleeding if used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
There is one case report of a patient experiencing minor bruising while taking bromelain with naproxen. Bromelain is thought to have antiplatelet activity. Whether this interaction is of concern with topical bromelain is unclear. Interference with coagulation of burn wounds has been reported in a patient receiving bromelain-based enzymatic debridement. However, observational research has found that topical bromelain debridement is not associated with increases or decreases in laboratory markers of coagulation when compared with surgical debridement.
Tetracycline Antibiotics
Theoretically, bromelain might increase levels of tetracycline antibiotics.
Laboratory research suggests that bromelain might increase the absorption of tetracycline antibiotics. However, a study in healthy adults reported no difference in tetracycline plasma levels when a 500 mg dose was taken with or without bromelain 80 mg.
Papain
Warfarin (Coumadin)
Theoretically, papain might increase the effects and side effects of warfarin.
In one case report, a patient previously stable on warfarin was found to have an international normalization ratio (INR) of 7.4, which was attributed to ingestion of a supplement containing papain from papaya extract.
