Dry Eye Formula Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by EVOA
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Dry Eye Formula against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Dry Eye Formula by EVOA
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
EVOA Dry Eye Formula contains three active ingredients: flaxseed oil, black currant seed oil, and bilberry herb extract. Flaxseed oil is rich in omega-3 fatty acids and is included for eye health support.
Black currant seed oil provides gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), another fatty acid, and bilberry extract contains compounds called anthocyanidins believed to support vision. The capsule also contains several inactive ingredients — gelatin, water, polysorbate, silica, blue #2 dye, and titanium dioxide — that serve as the capsule shell and tablet binders.
Does it work?
Not established
Evidence for these ingredients' effectiveness in dry eye is not established in the data we hold. Flaxseed oil has been rated possibly ineffective for obesity, rheumatoid arthritis, bipolar disorder, and high cholesterol, but we have no effectiveness rating specific to dry eye.
Black currant seed oil shows insufficient evidence for Alzheimer's disease, liver disease, upper respiratory infection, cough, eczema, and related conditions — again, no dry eye rating on file. Bilberry extract similarly shows insufficient evidence for night vision, age-related cognitive decline, macular degeneration, atherosclerosis, high cholesterol, and chronic venous insufficiency.
If you're considering this product for dry eye specifically, talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether the evidence supports its use for your situation.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Flaxseed oil is generally well tolerated by most adults, though quality and dose vary by product. The most common side effects are rare: a small number of patients taking flaxseed oil report changes in bowel habits, dry mouth, and indigestion at typical doses.
Very high doses (30 grams daily and above) have been linked to loose stools and diarrhea. Severe allergic reactions like anaphylaxis are rare.
Black currant seed oil appears well tolerated overall; in one study of over 2,000 patients, only 8 mild cases of diarrhea were reported. Bilberry extract seems well tolerated as well, though it may cause dark-colored stools, flatulence, and mild stomach discomfort.
A small number of people in clinical trials reported gastrointestinal effects. Because safety data for these concentrated supplements is limited — especially long-term — it's best to check with your doctor before use.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking EVOA Dry Eye Formula, check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take blood thinners (anticoagulants or antiplatelet agents) — flaxseed oil, black currant seed oil, and bilberry extract all carry Moderate-severity bleeding risk. Also double-check if you're on antihypertensive drugs, diabetes medications, ezetimibe (Zetia), the cancer drug erlotinib, phenothiazines, or drugs broken down by the liver enzyme CYP2E1.
The interaction tool on this page can help you search your exact medications.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This product combines three oils and an extract chosen for eye health, but evidence of effectiveness specifically for dry eye isn't established in our data. If you take blood thinners, diabetes medications, antihypertensive drugs, or certain other prescriptions, you'll want to check your exact medications against the interaction tool on this page before starting — the interactions are real and potentially serious.
Talk it over with your doctor or pharmacist to make sure it fits your situation.

Dry Eye Formula by EVOA Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
EVOA Dry Eye Formula contains flaxseed oil, black currant seed oil, and bilberry herb extract — three ingredients with documented interactions affecting multiple medication types.
The most serious interaction involves flaxseed oil and blood thinners (anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs), which carry a Moderate severity risk: flaxseed oil may increase bleeding time and the effect of these medications, raising your bleeding risk.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Black currant seed oil and bilberry extract also interact with blood thinners at Moderate severity, both potentially increasing bleeding risk through similar mechanisms. Flaxseed oil can lower blood pressure and may add to the effect of antihypertensive drugs (Moderate severity), theoretically raising your risk of low blood pressure.
Bilberry extract may lower blood sugar when combined with diabetes medications (Moderate severity), increasing the risk of low blood sugar. Bilberry also interacts at Moderate severity with certain cancer drugs (erlotinib) and drugs broken down by a liver enzyme called CYP2E1.
Flaxseed oil may also reduce how well your body absorbs ezetimibe (Zetia), a cholesterol medication (Moderate severity). Black currant seed oil carries a Moderate severity interaction with phenothiazines (antipsychotic medications), with theoretical concern for lowered seizure threshold, though no human cases are documented.
Altogether, these interactions span 464 individual medications. Use the medication checker on this page to search your exact drugs before starting.

For each ingredient in Dry Eye Formula with known interactions, here are the types of medications they can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Flaxseed Oil
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, using flaxseed oil in combination with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs might have additive effects and increase the risk of bleeding.
Small clinical studies show that consuming flaxseed oil might decrease platelet aggregation and increase bleeding time.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, combining flaxseed oil with other antihypertensive drugs might have additive effects and increase the risk of hypotension.
Some clinical evidence suggests that long-term consumption of flaxseed oil can modestly lower systolic and diastolic blood pressure, while other clinical research shows no effect.
Ezetimibe (Zetia)
Concomitant use of flaxseed oil and ezetimibe reduces the absorption of alpha-linolenic acid from flaxseed oil.
In one clinical study, concomitant consumption of ezetimibe 10 mg daily with flaxseed oil 2 grams providing 1 gram of alpha-linolenic acid daily blocked the absorption of alpha-linolenic acid, resulting in an overall reduction in alpha-linolenic plasma levels from baseline.
Bilberry herb extract
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, bilberry fruit extract might increase the risk of bleeding when taken with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
In vitro, animal, and clinical research suggest that anthocyanidin extracts from bilberry can inhibit platelet aggregation.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, bilberry leaf or fruit extract may increase the risk of hypoglycemia when taken with antidiabetes drugs.
Animal research suggests that bilberry leaf extract might have blood glucose-lowering activity. Also, one small clinical trial in patients with type 2 diabetes shows that taking bilberry fruit extract 470 mg as a single dose prior to an oral glucose tolerance test lowers plasma glucose levels when compared with placebo.
Cytochrome P450 2E1 (Cyp2E1) Substrates
Theoretically, bilberry fruit extract might decrease levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2E1.
Animal research shows that exposure to small concentrations of bilberry extract in drinking water for around one month increased CYP2E1 activity by 31%. However, exposure over a 2-month period did not increase CYP2E1 activity. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Erlotinib (Tarceva)
Theoretically, bilberry fruit extract might reduce the efficacy of erlotinib.
In vitro research suggests that bilberry fruit extract and its constituents, delphinidin and delphinidin-3-O-glucoside, inhibit the activity of erlotinib. This interaction has not been reported in humans.
Black Currant seed Oil
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, black currant seed oil might increase the risk of bleeding if used in combination with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
Gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), a constituent of black currant seed oil, appears to have antiplatelet effects.
Phenothiazines
Theoretically, black currant seed oil might increase the risk of seizure in patients receiving phenothiazines.
Black currant seed oil contains gamma-linolenic acid (GLA). There is some concern that taking supplements containing GLA might cause seizures, or lower the seizure threshold, when taken with phenothiazines, although there is no evidence that black currant seed oil causes seizures. In one report, three patients with schizophrenia who had received phenothiazines developed EEG changes suggestive of temporal lobe epilepsy after starting treatment with GLA, although none experienced an actual seizure. In another report, two patients with schizophrenia who were stabilized on phenothiazines developed seizures when evening primrose 4 grams daily, which contains GLA, was added. One of these patients had a prior history of seizures.
