Benazepril falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Flaxseed Oil interacts with.

Theoretically, combining flaxseed oil with other antihypertensive drugs might have additive effects and increase the risk of hypotension.
Some clinical evidence suggests that long-term consumption of flaxseed oil can modestly lower systolic and diastolic blood pressure, while other clinical research shows no effect.

Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.

Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the gist: benazepril (Lotensin) lowers your blood pressure, and flaxseed oil may nudge it down a little too. Put them together and the effects could add up. This is really a theoretical concern based on how each one works, not something proven to cause problems for most people. Some studies show flaxseed oil modestly lowering blood pressure, while others show no change at all.

If your pressure dips too low, you might feel dizzy, lightheaded, tired, or a bit unsteady, especially when you stand up quickly. For most folks this won't be a big deal, but it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding flaxseed oil. Don't change your benazepril on your own.
