Flaxseed Oil + Spironolactone
Spironolactone brand names: Aldactone, Spiroton, Carospir.
Flaxseed Oil has a moderate interaction with Spironolactone. Theoretically, combining flaxseed oil with other antihypertensive drugs might have additive effects and increase the risk of hypotension.

ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS
Why this applies to Spironolactone
Spironolactone falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Flaxseed Oil interacts with.
Some clinical evidence suggests that long-term consumption of flaxseed oil can modestly lower systolic and diastolic blood pressure, while other clinical research shows no effect.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist: spironolactone (Aldactone) is one of the medicines we use to bring blood pressure down and clear extra fluid. Flaxseed oil, in some studies, nudges blood pressure a little lower on its own, though other studies show no real effect. So in theory, taking the two together could add up and drop your pressure a bit more than expected.
If that happened, you might feel lightheaded, dizzy, or woozy, especially when standing up quickly. I'll be honest, this is a theoretical concern based on how things work, not a strong, proven interaction. Most people do fine. Still, if you take spironolactone, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding flaxseed oil, and let them know if you notice new dizziness.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Spironolactone page
“Potassium is the supplement I check first for anyone on spironolactone (Aldactone, Carospir), because this water pill works by holding potassium in the body, and supplementing more on top of that can push blood levels too high. About Flaxseed Oil
What is Flaxseed Oil?
- Source of omega-3 (ALA) fatty acids
- Heart and cholesterol health
- Dry skin and inflammation
- Constipation
- General wellness
Flaxseed oil is a plant-based source of the omega-3 fatty acid ALA, which the body can partly convert to the omega-3s found in fish oil. It may help support heart health and provide healthy fats, but evidence for most specific health claims is limited or mixed. It is generally well tolerated, but talk to your pharmacist or doctor before starting, especially if you are pregnant or have a bleeding risk.
About Spironolactone
What Is Spironolactone Used For?
Brand names: Aldactone, Spiroton, Carospir
Spironolactone tablets (including Aldactone) are used to treat moderate-to-severe heart failure, high blood pressure, and fluid retention (edema) caused by liver cirrhosis or nephrotic syndrome. They are also used to diagnose and manage primary hyperaldosteronism — a condition where the adrenal glands produce too much of the hormone aldosterone.
Spironolactone oral suspension shares several of these uses — heart failure, high blood pressure, and edema from liver cirrhosis — but is not the same as Aldactone and is not therapeutically interchangeable with it. Your prescriber will choose the right form for your situation.
