Flaxseed Oil + Verapamil
Verapamil brand names: Isoptin SR, Verelan, Isoptin, Calan SR, Verelan SR, and others.
Flaxseed Oil has a moderate interaction with Verapamil. Theoretically, combining flaxseed oil with other antihypertensive drugs might have additive effects and increase the risk of hypotension.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS
Why this applies to Verapamil
Verapamil falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Flaxseed Oil interacts with.
Some clinical evidence suggests that long-term consumption of flaxseed oil can modestly lower systolic and diastolic blood pressure, while other clinical research shows no effect.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the basic idea: verapamil already lowers your blood pressure by relaxing blood vessels and slowing the heart. Flaxseed oil might nudge blood pressure down a little on its own, so stacking the two could, in theory, add up and push your numbers lower than expected. If that happens, you might notice dizziness, lightheadedness when standing, tiredness, or feeling a bit weak.
I'll be honest with you though, this is a fairly soft concern. The evidence is theoretical, and even the human studies on flaxseed oil and blood pressure are mixed (some show a small dip, others show nothing). Most people do fine. Just keep an eye on how you feel, and check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding a concentrated flaxseed supplement, especially if your pressure already runs low.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Verapamil page
“This is one of the longer interaction lists we publish, and with verapamil (Calan, Verelan) it warrants genuine care, starting with the ten major-rated entries. Verapamil lowers blood pressure and slows the heart, so most of the 295 ingredients on file either push that effect further than intended or change how much of the drug reaches…”

About Flaxseed Oil
What is Flaxseed Oil?
- Source of omega-3 (ALA) fatty acids
- Heart and cholesterol health
- Dry skin and inflammation
- Constipation
- General wellness
Flaxseed oil is a plant-based source of the omega-3 fatty acid ALA, which the body can partly convert to the omega-3s found in fish oil. It may help support heart health and provide healthy fats, but evidence for most specific health claims is limited or mixed. It is generally well tolerated, but talk to your pharmacist or doctor before starting, especially if you are pregnant or have a bleeding risk.
About Verapamil
What Is Verapamil Used For?
Brand names: Isoptin SR, Verelan, Isoptin, Calan SR, Verelan SR, Calan, Covera HS, Verap, Veramil
Verapamil tablets and film-coated tablets are used to treat angina — including vasospastic (Prinzmetal's) angina, unstable angina, and chronic stable angina — as well as certain abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmias) and high blood pressure (essential hypertension). For arrhythmias, regular-release tablets are used alongside digoxin to control heart rate in atrial flutter or atrial fibrillation, and to help prevent episodes of paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia (SVT), a type of rapid heartbeat.
Extended-release and sustained-release oral forms (tablets and capsules) are indicated specifically for high blood pressure. Verapamil hydrochloride injection is used in hospital settings for rapid conversion of SVT to normal rhythm and for temporary control of fast heart rates in atrial flutter or atrial fibrillation.
