Elderberry Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Elderberry against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Elderberry by Eclectic Herb
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: dried elderberry. Elderberry is the ripe fruit from the elder plant, and it's been used traditionally for respiratory and immune support.
The liquid also contains glycerin, filtered water, and ascorbic acid (vitamin C) as inactive ingredients to preserve and deliver the elderberry.
Does it work?
Insufficient evidence
The evidence for elderberry isn't established in our data for the conditions it's often used for — hay fever, heart disease, chronic fatigue, COPD, brain function, and respiratory infections all show insufficient reliable evidence to rate how well it works. That doesn't mean it doesn't work; it means we don't have strong studies proving it does.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Properly cooked elderberry products like this one are generally well tolerated. The concern comes from raw or unripe berries, seeds, leaves, and bark — those contain compounds (cyanogenic glycosides) that can cause nausea, vomiting, severe diarrhea, weakness, dizziness, and other symptoms when you eat them raw.
Cooking gets rid of the toxin, and this product is a prepared liquid so that risk is handled. There's not enough safety data to recommend elderberry during pregnancy or while breastfeeding, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist if either applies to you.
One case report tied long-term elderberry use to autoimmune liver inflammation, though it's rare — if you have an underlying autoimmune condition, that's worth discussing with your pharmacist.
