Elderberry + Ciclesonide
Ciclesonide brand names: Omnaris, Alvesco, Zetonna.
Elderberry has a moderate interaction with Ciclesonide. Theoretically, elderberry might interfere with immunosuppressant therapy due to its immunostimulant activity.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
IMMUNOSUPPRESSANTS
Why this applies to Ciclesonide
Ciclesonide falls under IMMUNOSUPPRESSANTS — the group Elderberry interacts with.
Elderberry has immunostimulant activity, increasing the production of cytokines, including interleukin and tumor necrosis factor.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thinking behind this one. Elderberry may gently rev up parts of your immune system, bumping up signaling chemicals like cytokines. Ciclesonide, on the other hand, is an inhaled corticosteroid that works by calming inflammation in your airways. So in theory, these two are pulling in opposite directions, and elderberry could slightly blunt how well your inhaler keeps asthma symptoms in check.
I want to be honest, though: this concern is mostly theoretical and based on lab work, not solid human studies. Inhaled ciclesonide also acts mainly right in the lungs, so a big body-wide clash is unlikely. Still, if you notice more wheezing, coughing, or chest tightness after starting elderberry, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Ciclesonide page
“Ciclesonide (Alvesco, Omnaris, Zetonna) is a corticosteroid for asthma and nasal allergies, and even though it is inhaled rather than swallowed, its supplement list warrants genuine care. The body clears it through the CYP3A4 enzyme, and 121 of the 166 ingredients on file nudge that pathway one way or the other.”

About Elderberry
What is Elderberry?
- Colds
- Flu (influenza)
- Other respiratory infections
- Immune support
- Sinus and upper respiratory symptoms
Elderberry is a popular herbal supplement, mainly taken to help with colds and flu. Some small studies suggest it may modestly shorten cold or flu symptoms, but the evidence is limited and not conclusive. Cooked berries and properly prepared products are generally well tolerated, but raw or unripe parts can cause nausea and should be avoided.
