Elderberry + Prednisolone
Prednisolone brand names: Prednisolone, Sterane, Delta Cortef, Cortalone, Pred Forte, and others.
Elderberry has a moderate interaction with Prednisolone. Theoretically, elderberry might interfere with immunosuppressant therapy due to its immunostimulant activity.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
IMMUNOSUPPRESSANTS
Why this applies to Prednisolone
Prednisolone falls under IMMUNOSUPPRESSANTS — the group Elderberry interacts with.
Elderberry has immunostimulant activity, increasing the production of cytokines, including interleukin and tumor necrosis factor.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the idea behind this one. Prednisolone is a steroid that calms down an overactive immune system, which is exactly why it's used for things like arthritis flares, allergic reactions, asthma, and to protect a transplanted organ. Elderberry, on the other hand, is thought to gently rev up the immune system by boosting signaling chemicals like interleukins and TNF. So in theory, the two could work against each other, with elderberry nudging your immune system back on while prednisolone is trying to dial it down.
I want to be honest: this is mostly a theoretical concern based on lab and lower-quality research, not strong human proof. For most short-term steroid use it likely won't cause problems, but it matters more if you're on prednisolone for transplant protection or a serious autoimmune condition. Please check with your doctor or pharmacist before combining them.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Prednisolone page
“Prednisolone quiets inflammation and dampens the immune system, and its list of 202 interacting supplement and herbal ingredients, four of them rated major, deserves a careful read rather than a shrug. Grapefruit can push prednisolone levels up by blocking its breakdown, St.”

About Elderberry
What is Elderberry?
- Colds
- Flu (influenza)
- Other respiratory infections
- Immune support
- Sinus and upper respiratory symptoms
Elderberry is a popular herbal supplement, mainly taken to help with colds and flu. Some small studies suggest it may modestly shorten cold or flu symptoms, but the evidence is limited and not conclusive. Cooked berries and properly prepared products are generally well tolerated, but raw or unripe parts can cause nausea and should be avoided.
About Prednisolone
What Is Prednisolone Used For?
Brand names: Prednisolone, Sterane, Delta Cortef, Cortalone, Pred Forte, Solupred
Prednisolone is prescribed for many different conditions where inflammation or an overactive immune system is causing harm. These range from severe allergic reactions and asthma to certain skin diseases, blood disorders, eye problems, and some cancers.
It is also used to support the body when the adrenal glands aren't making enough of their own steroids, and to manage flares of conditions like ulcerative colitis, multiple sclerosis, and nephrotic syndrome (a kidney condition causing protein loss in the urine).
