Here's the thing to keep in mind with Siponimod (Mayzent): its whole job is to quiet down certain immune cells so they stop attacking your nerves in MS. Elderberry, on the other hand, is thought to do the opposite. In lab studies it seems to rev up the immune system by boosting signaling proteins like interleukins and TNF.

So in theory, elderberry could work against what siponimod is trying to accomplish, possibly making it less effective at keeping your MS symptoms in check. I want to be honest though: this concern comes mostly from test-tube and weaker studies, not strong human data, so it's more of a 'be cautious' flag than a sure thing. Before adding elderberry, it's worth a quick chat with your neurologist or pharmacist.

What Is Siponimod Used For?

Mayzent (siponimod) is approved for adults with relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis (MS). This includes three specific types: clinically isolated syndrome (a first episode of MS-like symptoms), relapsing-remitting MS (periods of attacks followed by recovery), and active secondary progressive MS (a phase where the disease gradually worsens but still has active relapses).

It is taken by mouth once daily and is intended as a long-term treatment to reduce relapses and slow disease progression.
