What’s inside
Partial disclosure
Osumex GMC2 for Humans contains 10 active ingredients. The main ones are two forms of glucosamine—glucosamine sulfate and glucosamine HCl—which support joint structure, plus chondroitin sulfate, which works alongside glucosamine to help maintain cartilage.
The formula also includes collagen for structural support, Boswellia serrata resin extract (an herbal anti-inflammatory), flaxseed oil (a source of omega-3s), yucca, manganese (a mineral), and fat. The inactive ingredients—natural flavors, fructose, xanthan gum, stevia extract, grape skin extract, and potassium sorbate—serve as flavoring, texture, and preservative.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Glucosamine sulfate and glucosamine HCl are both likely effective for osteoarthritis, though quality and benefit vary between products. Chondroitin sulfate is possibly effective for both osteoarthritis and cataracts.
Boswellia serrata is possibly effective for osteoarthritis as well. Flaxseed oil has been rated possibly ineffective for obesity, rheumatoid arthritis, bipolar disorder, and high cholesterol.
For yucca and manganese's other uses listed in this formula—joint pain, allergic rhinitis, and osteoporosis—the evidence is insufficient to rate their effectiveness. The evidence for this product's ability to address aging skin, back pain, liver disease, and other conditions is not established in our data.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Glucosamine and chondroitin are generally well tolerated when taken by mouth, though common mild side effects include bloating, constipation, cramps, diarrhea, heartburn, and nausea. Allergic reactions are a concern for sensitive individuals; one review found that about 72% of glucosamine-related adverse events involved hypersensitivity reactions, ranging from mild (itching, hives, lip swelling) to rare severe cases (including anaphylaxis in 1.5%) and rare asthma exacerbations.
Boswellia serrata and flaxseed oil are also generally well tolerated at normal doses; Boswellia may cause headache, dizziness, abdominal pain, or diarrhea, while flaxseed oil may cause loose stools or diarrhea at high doses. Manganese is safe in normal dietary amounts, but high-dose supplements carry a rare risk of nerve damage and Parkinson-like symptoms.
Pregnancy: safety data for glucosamine and chondroitin in pregnancy is insufficient, so these are best avoided; Boswellia and yucca safety data is also insufficient; flaxseed oil is possibly safe; and manganese amounts in prenatal vitamins are appropriate, but avoid high-dose supplements. Breastfeeding: safety data is insufficient for glucosamine, chondroitin, Boswellia, and yucca, so avoid unless your doctor advises; flaxseed oil has limited data but may be used with medical advice; and manganese is likely safe at normal dietary levels but avoid high-dose supplements.
Meds to double-check
Major interaction found
Before taking Osumex GMC2 for Humans, check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take any of these: blood thinners (anticoagulants) like warfarin—the glucosamine and chondroitin may increase bleeding risk; cancer drugs that target topoisomerase II (such as etoposide or doxorubicin); antipsychotics; immunosuppressants; blood pressure-lowering drugs; other blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs; diabetes medications; acetaminophen (Tylenol); quinolone or tetracycline antibiotics; or ezetimibe (Zetia). This is not a complete list—use the medication checker on this page with your full medication list.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glancePartially disclosed formula with clinical evidence supporting its stated purpose. Major medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This product is designed mainly for osteoarthritis support through its glucosamine, chondroitin, and Boswellia content. If you take blood thinners like warfarin, diabetes medications, antipsychotics, antibiotics, blood pressure drugs, or immunosuppressants, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before starting—several ingredients can interact with these.
Pregnant or breastfeeding individuals should also check with their healthcare provider, since safety data for most ingredients is limited. Quality and benefit vary by product, so it's worth discussing with your own healthcare provider whether this is right for you.

GMC2 for Humans by Osumex Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Osumex GMC2 for Humans interacts with medications through its glucosamine sulfate, glucosamine HCl, chondroitin sulfate, Boswellia serrata resin extract, flaxseed oil, and manganese content.
The most serious interaction is a Major risk: both forms of glucosamine may increase the blood-thinning (anticoagulant) effects of warfarin (Coumadin) and raise the risk of bruising and bleeding, based on case reports of patients whose clotting markers (INR) rose significantly after adding glucosamine or glucosamine-chondroitin combinations.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Moderate interactions span several drug categories. Chondroitin sulfate may also amplify warfarin's effects when combined with glucosamine.
Boswellia serrata may inhibit liver enzymes (CYP2D6, CYP2C19, CYP1A2, CYP2C9, and CYP3A4) that metabolize many drugs, potentially raising their blood levels; it may also alter immunosuppressant effectiveness. Flaxseed oil may add to the effects of blood pressure drugs and blood thinners (anticoagulants and antiplatelets), and it can reduce absorption of ezetimibe (Zetia).
Manganese may increase the risk of toxicity with antipsychotic drugs and reduce absorption of quinolone and tetracycline antibiotics.
Minor interactions include glucosamine with diabetes drugs and acetaminophen (Tylenol). Despite early concerns, glucosamine is unlikely to worsen diabetes control, but acetaminophen may reduce glucosamine's pain-relief effect in osteoarthritis.
Altogether, these interactions span 1,265 individual medications.

In vitro research shows that Boswellia serrata gum resin inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes. Other in vitro research shows that Boswellia serrata extract inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes at most concentrations, although it may modestly induce enzyme activity at low concentrations.
Immunosuppressants
Theoretically, Boswellia serrata might alter the effects of immunosuppressive drugs.
Some in vitro research suggests that Boswellia serrata extracts might inhibit mediators of autoimmune disorders such as leukotrienes and reduce production of antibodies and cell-mediated immunity. However, other in vitro research suggests that, when coupled with calcium ions, boswellic acids containing the keto group have immunostimulant properties within specific cell signaling pathways.
Flaxseed Oil
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, using flaxseed oil in combination with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs might have additive effects and increase the risk of bleeding.
Small clinical studies show that consuming flaxseed oil might decrease platelet aggregation and increase bleeding time.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, combining flaxseed oil with other antihypertensive drugs might have additive effects and increase the risk of hypotension.
Some clinical evidence suggests that long-term consumption of flaxseed oil can modestly lower systolic and diastolic blood pressure, while other clinical research shows no effect.
Ezetimibe (Zetia)
Concomitant use of flaxseed oil and ezetimibe reduces the absorption of alpha-linolenic acid from flaxseed oil.
In one clinical study, concomitant consumption of ezetimibe 10 mg daily with flaxseed oil 2 grams providing 1 gram of alpha-linolenic acid daily blocked the absorption of alpha-linolenic acid, resulting in an overall reduction in alpha-linolenic plasma levels from baseline.
Glucosamine Sulfate
Warfarin (Coumadin)
Glucosamine might increase the anticoagulant effects of warfarin and increase the risk of bruising and bleeding.
In two individual case reports, glucosamine/chondroitin combinations were associated with a significant increase in international normalized ratio (INR) in patients previously stabilized on warfarin. In one case, the increase in INR occurred only after tripling the dose of a glucosamine/chondroitin supplement from 500 mg/400 mg daily to 1500/1200 mg daily. Additionally, 20 voluntary case reports to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) have linked glucosamine plus chondroitin with increased INR, bruising, and bleeding in patients who were also taking warfarin. There have also been 20 additional case reports to the World Health Organization (WHO) that link glucosamine alone to increased INR in patients taking warfarin. The mechanism of this interaction is unclear. Glucosamine is a small component of heparin, but is not thought to have anticoagulant activity; however, animal research suggests that it might have antiplatelet activity.
Topoisomerase Ii Inhibitors
Theoretically glucosamine may induce resistance to topoisomerase II inhibitors.
In vitro research suggests that glucosamine might induce resistance to etoposide (VP16, VePesid) and doxorubicin (Adriamycin) by reducing inhibition of topoisomerase II, an enzyme required for DNA replication in tumor cells. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Acetaminophen (Tylenol, Others)
Acetaminophen might interfere with the activity of glucosamine sulfate by interacting with the sulfate portion.
Anecdotal reports suggest that adding glucosamine to an acetaminophen regimen might decrease pain control in patients with osteoarthritis. Some research suggests that the sulfate portion of glucosamine sulfate might contribute to its effect in osteoarthritis. Since acetaminophen metabolism requires sulfur and reduces serum sulfate concentrations, acetaminophen could theoretically interfere with the action of glucosamine sulfate. Conversely, the administration of sulfate could theoretically decrease the effectiveness of acetaminophen in sulfate-deficient people by increasing its clearance.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Despite initial concerns, it is unlikely that glucosamine will interfere with the effects of antidiabetes drugs.
In vitro and animal research has suggested that glucosamine might increase insulin resistance or decrease insulin production. This has raised concerns that taking glucosamine might worsen diabetes and decrease the effectiveness of diabetes drugs. However, clinical research suggests that glucosamine does not have adverse effects on blood glucose or glycated hemoglobin (HbA1C) in healthy, obese, or type 2 diabetes patients.
Manganese
Antipsychotic Drugs
Theoretically, the risk for manganese toxicity might increase when taken with antipsychotic drugs.
Hallucinations and behavioral changes have been reported in a patient with liver disease who was taking haloperidol and manganese. Researchers speculate that taking manganese along with haloperidol, phenothiazine-derivatives, or other antipsychotic medications might increase the risk of manganese toxicity in some patients.
Quinolone Antibiotics
Theoretically, manganese might reduce the absorption of quinolone antibiotics.
Manganese is a multivalent cation. Interactions resulting in reduced quinolone absorption have been reported between quinolones and other multivalent cations, such as calcium and iron.
Tetracycline Antibiotics
Theoretically, manganese might reduce the absorption of tetracycline antibiotics.
Manganese is a multivalent cation. Interactions resulting in reduced tetracycline absorption have been reported between tetracyclines and other multivalent cations, such as calcium and iron.
Chondroitin Sulphate
Warfarin (Coumadin)
Taking chondroitin in combination with glucosamine might increase the anticoagulant effects of warfarin. However, the effect of chondroitin alone is unclear.
There have been multiple reports of increased international normalized ratio (INR) in patients taking warfarin with glucosamine, with or without chondroitin. The lack of reports with chondroitin alone seem to suggest that the interactions occurring in these reports may have been due to glucosamine. In two individual case reports, glucosamine/chondroitin combinations were associated with a significant increase in INR in patients previously stabilized on warfarin. Additionally, 20 voluntary case reports to the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA) have linked glucosamine plus chondroitin with increased INR, bruising, and bleeding in patients who were also taking warfarin. There have also been 20 additional case reports to the World Health Organization (WHO) that link glucosamine alone, without chondroitin, to increased INR in patients taking warfarin.
