HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Green Ginger & Wormseed by Pure Herbs
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
This liquid blend contains 2 active ingredients: epazote aerial part extract and wormwood aerial part extract. Epazote has been traditionally used for intestinal parasites, though we don't have reliable evidence of its effectiveness for that purpose in our data.
Wormwood has a long history in herbal medicine for digestive and biliary complaints, but again, we lack sufficient evidence to confirm it works for any of those conditions — including biliary disorders, Crohn disease, depression, dyspepsia, or osteoarthritis. There are no inactive ingredients listed.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence isn't established in our data. Epazote is rated as having insufficient reliable evidence for intestinal parasite infection.
Wormwood carries the same rating across multiple uses — biliary disorders, Crohn disease, depression, dyspepsia, and osteoarthritis all lack sufficient reliable evidence to support its effectiveness. If you're considering this product for a specific condition, that's a conversation worth having with your doctor or pharmacist.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Both ingredients in this product carry serious safety flags. Epazote contains ascaridole, a toxic compound with a very narrow margin between an effective dose and a dangerous one — it's classified as unsafe for oral use.
It can cause dizziness, headache, vomiting, skin and mucous membrane irritation, and in rare cases, circulatory collapse, convulsions, temporary deafness, kidney and liver damage, paralysis, and death. Wormwood contains thujone, a neurotoxin that can trigger nausea, vomiting, muscle aches, and in rare instances, acute kidney damage, seizures, and rhabdomyolysis.
Chronic heavy use has been linked to hallucinations, tremors, brain damage, and psychiatric illness. Neither ingredient should be used during pregnancy — both may stimulate the uterus and carry serious toxicity risks.
Epazote is unsafe during breastfeeding, and wormwood is best avoided while nursing due to insufficient safety data. The safety data advises against both during these periods.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take anticonvulsant drugs (seizure medications), check with your pharmacist before starting this product — wormwood may interfere with how they work. If you're on any photosensitizing medication (a drug that increases your skin's sun sensitivity), that also needs a safety review first.
These are the two documented interaction categories in our data.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This product carries significant safety concerns that go beyond typical supplement caution. Epazote and wormwood both contain toxic compounds with narrow safety margins and risk of serious adverse effects.
There's no reliable evidence either ingredient works for its traditional uses. Unless your doctor has specifically recommended this product and cleared it for you, it's worth discussing with your own healthcare provider or pharmacist before taking it — particularly if you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking seizure medications.
