High Test Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by BioXgenic
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking High Test against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
High Test contains 14 ingredients, including amino acids, minerals, botanicals, and a spice extract. The amino acids are L-glutamine (for cellular support), L-tyrosine (a thyroid and neurotransmitter precursor), L-arginine (for nitric oxide and blood flow), L-lysine (for immune and connective tissue support), and L-ornithine (linked to athletic performance).
Zinc is a mineral cofactor for immune and reproductive function. The botanical ingredients are beta-sitosterol (from plant sterols, used in prostate support), Tribulus terrestris and Eurycoma longifolia (traditional herbs for sexual function and athletic performance), oats (Avena sativa, for cholesterol and blood sugar), saw palmetto (for prostate health), and fenugreek (Testofen brand, for sexual function and blood sugar).
Bioperine is a black pepper extract used to enhance absorption of other nutrients. Three proprietary blends—Hormone Releasing X Complex, Testosterone Boosting X Complex, and Natural Factors X Complex, plus Prostate Safety X Complex—round out the formula; their individual components are not disclosed on the label.
The capsule also contains gelatin, magnesium stearate, titanium dioxide, and FD&C Blue #1 as inactive ingredients.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Evidence for the active ingredients in High Test is mixed. Zinc is effective for zinc deficiency and likely effective for Wilson disease.
Oats are likely effective for lowering cholesterol and reducing heart disease risk. L-glutamine is effective for sickle cell disease and possibly effective for HIV-related wasting, postoperative recovery, and critical illness.
L-tyrosine is effective for phenylketonuria (PKU) and possibly effective for cognitive function and memory, though athletic performance is rated possibly ineffective. L-arginine has no established effectiveness rating in the data we hold.
L-lysine is possibly effective for cold sores. Beta-sitosterol is likely effective for benign prostatic hyperplasia and possibly effective for high cholesterol and heart disease.
Tribulus is possibly effective for sexual dysfunction but possibly ineffective for athletic performance. Eurycoma longifolia is possibly effective for sexual desire.
Fenugreek is possibly effective for sexual dysfunction and diabetes. Saw palmetto is possibly ineffective for benign prostatic hyperplasia.
For L-ornithine, GABA, Bioperine, and the proprietary blends, the evidence is insufficient or not established in our data.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Most ingredients in High Test are generally well tolerated in the short term. L-glutamine, L-tyrosine, L-arginine, L-lysine, L-ornithine, and oats are well tolerated orally at typical doses, though long-term safety data for many are limited.
Zinc is well tolerated below 40 mg daily; higher doses may increase copper deficiency risk. Common mild side effects include gastrointestinal upset (nausea, diarrhea, bloating, constipation), headache, and fatigue.
GABA may cause drowsiness and muscle weakness. Bioperine (black pepper) is well tolerated as a food spice but less studied at supplement concentrations.
Tribulus and Eurycoma longifolia may increase testosterone; if levels go too high, acne, insulin resistance, and liver effects are possible. Saw palmetto rarely causes cardiovascular effects like heart block or irregular heartbeats.
Fenugreek can cause severe allergic reactions including anaphylaxis in sensitive people. Pregnancy and lactation safety varies by ingredient: L-glutamine and oats are rated likely safe in pregnancy; L-tyrosine, L-arginine, and Bioperine lack sufficient data; L-ornithine, GABA, beta-sitosterol, tribulus, saw palmetto, and Eurycoma longifolia are best avoided in pregnancy and lactation.
L-lysine data on supplement use in pregnancy and lactation are insufficient—food sources are fine. Fenugreek is likely unsafe in pregnancy but possibly safe for lactation.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking High Test, double-check these medication types with your doctor or pharmacist. Most serious: anticonvulsant (seizure) medications may be antagonized by L-glutamine.
Blood pressure-lowering drugs (antihypertensives, ACE inhibitors, ARBs) could have stronger effects when combined with L-arginine, GABA, or tribulus. Diabetes medications and insulin may cause dangerously low blood sugar if combined with L-arginine, oats, fenugreek, or tribulus.
Blood thinners (warfarin) and antiplatelet drugs (clopidogrel, aspirin) may have increased effects with L-arginine, saw palmetto, or fenugreek. Antibiotics—especially quinolones, tetracyclines, cephalexin, and penicillamine—have reduced absorption with zinc; space doses 2–6 hours apart.
HIV drugs (ritonavir, integrase inhibitors, bictegravir combinations) may have lower levels with zinc. Thyroid hormones may have stronger effects with L-tyrosine.
Levodopa (Parkinson's) absorption may be reduced by L-tyrosine. Seizure medications like phenytoin may have higher levels with Bioperine.
Lithium levels may rise with tribulus. Several other drug types are also affected—ask your pharmacist to run the full list.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with clinical evidence supporting its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
High Test is a multingredient formula aimed at sexual function, athletic performance, and prostate health. It may help with those goals for some people, but the evidence is stronger for some ingredients than others.
Because it contains multiple ingredients that interact with common medications—especially blood pressure drugs, diabetes drugs, blood thinners, antibiotics, seizure medications, and thyroid hormones—you'll want to check your exact medications with your doctor or pharmacist before starting. If you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or managing a chronic condition, discuss this product with your healthcare provider first.

Multiple ingredients interact with blood pressure medications (L-arginine, GABA, tribulus), blood sugar drugs (L-arginine, oats, fenugreek, tribulus), and blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (L-arginine, saw palmetto, fenugreek). Zinc can reduce absorption of several antibiotics—quinolones, tetracyclines, cephalexin, and penicillamine—as well as the HIV drugs ritonavir, integrase inhibitors, and bictegravir/emtricitabine/tenofovir alafenamide.
Bioperine (black pepper) can raise blood levels of propranolol, phenytoin, theophylline, rifampin, nevirapine, and several other drugs. Saw palmetto may interfere with estrogens and oral contraceptives.
We could not check Proprietary Blend, Hormone Releasing X Complex, Testosterone Boosting X Complex, Natural Factors X Complex, and Prostate Safety X Complex because they are unlisted blends.
Additionally, additional Moderate interactions exist with levodopa (L-tyrosine), thyroid hormones (L-tyrosine), potassium-sparing diuretics (L-arginine), ACE inhibitors and ARBs (L-arginine), sildenafil (L-arginine, fenugreek), isoproterenol (L-arginine), CNS depressants (GABA), lithium (tribulus), and CYP450 enzyme substrates (Eurycoma longifolia, Bioperine). For each ingredient in High Test with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Zinc
Bictegravir/Emtricitabine/Tenofovir Alafenamide (Biktarvy)
Theoretically, zinc might decrease levels of bictegravir/emtricitabine/tenofovir alafenamide by reducing its absorption.
Advise patients that bictegravir/emtricitabine/tenofovir alafenamide should be taken at least 2 hours before or 6 hours after zinc containing products.
Cephalexin (Keflex)
Zinc might decrease cephalexin levels by chelating with cephalexin in the gut and preventing its absorption.
A pharmacokinetic study shows that zinc sulfate 250 mg taken concomitantly with cephalexin 500 mg decreases peak levels of cephalexin by 31% and reduces the exposure to cephalexin by 27%. Also, taking zinc sulfate 3 hours before cephalexin decreases peak levels of cephalexin by 11% and reduces the exposure to cephalexin by 18%. By decreasing cephalexin levels, zinc might increase the risk of treatment failure. This effect does not occur when zinc is taken 3 hours after the cephalexin dose. To avoid an interaction, advise patients take zinc sulfate 3 hours after taking cephalexin.
Cisplatin (Platinol-Aq)
Theoretically, zinc might interfere with the therapeutic effects of cisplatin.
Animal research suggests that zinc stimulates tumor cell production of the protein metallothionein, which binds and inactivates cisplatin. It is not known whether zinc supplements or high dietary zinc intake can cause clinically significant interference with cisplatin therapy. Cisplatin might also increase zinc excretion.
Integrase Inhibitors
Theoretically, taking zinc along with integrase inhibitors might decrease the levels and clinical effects of these drugs.
Zinc is a divalent cation. Pharmacokinetic studies have shown that other divalent cations such as calcium and iron can decrease blood levels of the integrase inhibitor dolutegravir through chelation.
Penicillamine (Cuprimine, Depen)
Zinc might reduce the levels and clinical effects of penicillamine.
By forming an insoluble complex with penicillamine, zinc interferes with penicillamine absorption and activity. Zinc supplements reduce the efficacy of low-dose penicillamine (0.5-1 gram/day), but do not seem to affect higher doses (1-2.75 gram/day), provided dosing times are separated. Advise patients to take zinc and penicillamine at least 2 hours apart.
Quinolone Antibiotics
Zinc can decrease the levels and clinical effects of quinolones antibiotics.
Quinolones form complexes with zinc in the gastrointestinal tract, reducing absorption of both the quinolone and zinc if taken at the same time. Advise patients to take these drugs at least 2 hours before, or 4-6 hours after, zinc supplements.
Ritonavir (Norvir)
Zinc modestly reduces levels of ritonavir.
Clinical research shows that zinc might reduce serum ritonavir levels by chelating with ritonavir in the gut and preventing its absorption. In patients with HIV, ritonavir is taken with atazanavir to prevent the metabolism and increase the effects of atazanavir. A pharmacokinetic study shows that, in patients being treated with atazanavir/ritonavir, co-administration of zinc sulfate (Solvazinc tablets) 125 mg as a single dose or as multiple daily doses for 2 weeks reduces plasma levels of ritonavir by about 16%. However, atazanavir levels still remains high enough to prevent HIV virus replication. Therefore, the decrease in ritonavir levels is not likely to be clinically significant.
Tetracycline Antibiotics
Zinc might reduce levels of tetracycline antibiotics.
Tetracyclines form complexes with zinc in the gastrointestinal tract, which can reduce absorption of both the tetracycline and zinc when taken at the same time. Taking zinc sulfate 200 mg with tetracycline reduces absorption of the antibiotic by 30% to 40%. Demeclocycline and minocycline cause a similar interaction. However, doxycycline does not seem to interact significantly with zinc. Advise patients to take tetracyclines at least 2 hours before, or 4-6 hours after, zinc supplements to avoid any interactions.
Amiloride (Midamor)
Amiloride can modestly reduce zinc excretion and increase zinc levels.
Clinical research shows that amiloride can reduce urinary zinc excretion, especially at doses of 10 mg per day or more. This zinc-sparing effect can help to counteract zinc losses caused by thiazide diuretics, but it is unlikely to cause zinc toxicity at usual amiloride doses. The other potassium-sparing diuretics, spironolactone (Aldactone) and triamterene (Dyrenium), do not seem to have a zinc-sparing effect.
Atazanavir (Reyataz)
Zinc modestly reduces levels of atazanavir, although this effect does not seem to be clinically significant.
Clinical research shows that zinc might decrease serum atazanavir levels by chelating with atazanavir in the gut and preventing its absorption. Although a single dose of zinc sulfate (Solvazinc tablets) 125 mg orally does not affect atazanavir concentrations in patients being treated with atazanavir/ritonavir, co-administration of zinc sulfate 125 mg daily for 2 weeks reduces plasma levels of atazanavir by about 22% in these patients. However, despite this decrease, atazanavir levels still remain at high enough concentrations for the prevention of HIV virus replication.
